weekending

Happy Monday, friends, and long time no see! I honestly didn't miss being here the last week, which means the break was enjoyed and much needed. I contemplated extending it through this week, but. alas, here I am. I'll talk about the weekend here first, then tomorrow I'll come back with a Colorado trip recap.

Also, before I get too far down the rabbit hole here, I feel like I should tell you that I ended things with J on Saturday; being away for a week showed me some things, and I decided to call it before it went any further. It was sad and I cried, honestly, because he said some really sweet things, but he also agreed that he can't give me what I want in a relationship. We both came damaged and a little battered...those are his words, and I agree with them...and this, my friends, is what dating after divorce looks like. It sucks, I'm not going to lie. Moving forward, I'm going to date men, but Ima need someone to throw a brick at my head if I do what I did with J, which was to make them a priority. The priority in my life is me, quite honestly; I'll date and I'm trying to change my mentality from a serious relationship to just having fun and seeing where it goes.

I'm not giving up, but I'm also not very hopeful, if I'm being honest. There's more, but I don't really feel like I can say it here. I'm done with this talking about J and relationships now; please, let's not mention it again, okay? Thank you for understanding that it's painful.

Friday started bright and early! I was up by 5:45 and getting dressed for breakfast before my ten something a.m. flight. There's a place on the way to the airport that I love to eat at when I visit my sisters, called Stone Gate; I always get their eggs Benedict. It's delicious! We were there by 7:15 that morning. Lisa dropped me off at departures at DIA, and I proceeded to walk my butt off to get through TSA. 🤣 Seriously, I think I walked close to 7,000 steps before I sat down at my gate. I liked this flag they had hanging.

I dressed for comfort on this day in all black; I wore leggings and a roomy black t-shirt to fly home in.

Marilyn picked me up from the airport; it was so good to see her! When I got home, it was like Christmas, with all the Amazon packages. I ordered this adorable romper last week during Prime days, and I love it so much. If you're interested, here's a link.

Being reunited with Soulmate never felt so good! And yes, she is now referred to as Soulmate. I hung out with her at her house Friday night, because my house was torn up from work I was having done. We ate a hodgepodge dinner of leftovers she had from sweet friends who took them food last week; it was delicious, and I got to sit and enjoy dinner with her and Brook. I got to hug sweet Brookie, even, which I was so glad to be able to do. My heart breaks for her each time I think of her; my heart breaks for all of the people who lost loved ones last week. The images have been gut wrenching!

It felt so good to be at home in my own bed again! I enjoyed my coffee Saturday morning before the workers came back to my house; I was dressed and ready to leave by 9:30. I went to get my nails done, then I met up with my mom and Trish.

I decided to go with neutral again, so I chose Funny Bunny this time for my nails. They match my toes now!

Please excuse the terrible, last minute picture of Mom and me. I missed her!

We decided to make it a whole weekend thing this week and went to dinner at a favorite local bar/grill called Skybox. We had drinks and split an appetizer; we had chicken nachos and I had a spicy margarita with mine.

After dinner we decided to go for yogurt. Things escalated at one point in our conversation, and I had to have her fan! I was home again kind of early so that I could shower and wash my hair. I laid down after that, around 9:30, but I was up until after two a.m.

Do you know how lovely it was to be able to sleep in until 7:30 on a Sunday and read for pleasure before getting dressed for church?? I loved it; it was my first Sunday at church not running the bookstore. I'm so grateful for this! Church was amazing; I came home after and had lunch before taking a quick nap. I met up with my Missy last night for dinner, and it was great to catch up with her.

As for the work I had done in my house, see the pictures below! I had the rest of the downstairs painted, and I am in love with how bright and clean it all looks.

It's amazing what fresh paint does, right?

What did you do this weekend? I feel like I haven't talked to you in so long; feel free to catch me up in the comments! I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!

Jenn ❤️

  1. Sorry about J- endings are hard even if needed. Looking forward to hearing about Colorado. Oh, and seeing pics- it's so pretty out there! The paint job looks great! I'll bet it was wonderful to hug Marilyn- both because you missed each other and because of the emotional upheaval of the week for her and her loved ones. I hope your Monday is a great one as you ease back into a week of "regular life" after travel :).

  3. I LOVE the new paint color! Paint really does make a huge impact on a space and it's one of my favorite ways to change things up. I can't wait to hear about your trip. It's always so nice to be back home after a trip and sleep in your own bed again.

    1. Thank you! It really does, and it's a good way to change things in a way that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. You are so right about being back home in my own bed!

  4. Is it Agreeable Gray by SW? It looks amazing! So fresh and so clean! I love that you and Marilyn re-united and spent so much time together. I love that you are enjoying your rest of July before your next chapter which included being a church goer only. The green romper is adorable! Are you getting a lot out of the Let Them book? It's on my library request list.

    1. It is! I love it so much. I love the fresh look; it feels amazing to have it look so different after years of color, and I love that the whole house is one color now, except for the bedrooms. It was SO NICE being a church goer yesterday! Thanks for that, friend. I love it and plan on taking it to the beach this week. I am! It's so good; it's actually worth buying.

  5. I am sorry things didn't work out with J- dating, at any age, in any stage, is not easy. I like your train of thought though and putting yourself first- Amen! Love seeing your pics with Marilyn :)

    1. Thank you! You're so right; I've witnessed that with my own sons like you have with Diana. I am learning to be a little more selfish when it comes to this. I hope you have a great day, sweet lady!

    2. Trying to read blogs and comment on my phone which is very difficult for this grandma. Couldn't find where to write a comment without clicking on reply first. I'm so sorry I'm so inept.
Glad for your time away from the blog. I totally understand about relationships after a divorce. We dated for 5 years and had a number of breakups because we were both burned badly and had a lot of baggage.
You're freshly painted. House looks so nice. I am really wanting our house be painted and want new carpeting. But it sounds like a lot of work. Hand expense. Did the painters move your furniture?
Glad you and soulmate had a happy reunion. Hope this week is kind to you.

  6. I love fresh paint and yours looks good and so clean! That's what I love most about painting. Things feel clean. We need our entire interior refreshed with new paint but the cost is daunting. So many rooms flow into others and I have high ceilings and acck! We are thinking this fall. I'm sure Marilyn was glad to see you too. What a nightmare week it has been. I'm sorry things didn't work out but am glad you had the courage to do what is right for you in terms of a relationship. Hugs. Can't wait to hear about Colorado. Enjoy your week!

    1. I do too! Thank you for that! I'd painted the upstairs interior a few years ago, so all I needed was the downstairs; Graham's friend gave me a price that couldn't be beat. It was even better since I had all the paint already! I appreciate your kind words about J and me; I'm learning as I go, that is for sure. We ended on sweet terms, which is probably why I cried. He said some wonderful things to me, which always makes it a little harder. I hope you do the same!

  7. Ahh! I missed reading from you, it sounds like you had a fantastic trip!
So sorry that things didn't work out with J. It sounds like you both learned things from the short time together. Sending love and hugs.
Aww! How great for you to be reunited with Marilyn. It sounds like you had a lovely time together. The green romper looks fab on you!
That is fantastic you had the work done in your house while you were away! It looks great!!

    1. Thank you! Part of me missing being here, but I also really enjoyed and needed the break. It was such a fun week away! It was definitely fun coming home to a house that was being worked on for some major change. I've enjoyed it ever since they finished on Saturday. I love the way it looks now, and how different it is versus how it was. It felt great to make that big change with no input from anyone else, honestly. I hope you have a great day, sweet friend!
