ageless style: the colors of fall

Happy Thursday, friends! Welcome to the September edition of Ageless Style. This month we're talking about the colors of fall! I hope this inspires you in your wardrobe for the upcoming season.

I'm a seasonal dresser; this just means that I don't wear neon like colors in the fall and winter. I love those colors in the summer months when I'm tan, but I like more muted things in the fall and winter. I love jewel tones in the winter months, too, though...you've heard me talk about this a million times. The last couple of weeks I've been looking for some ways to add more color to my wardrobe to make it not so drab. I've added a few things to my closet lately, thanks to my searching.

One is this shirt from the online boutique called Moco. I wore this to work on Monday and got several compliments on the shirt. Here's a link for the website, but I'm not able to find this particular shirt.

I'm also wearing lots of black, denim, mocha, and my favorite poncho style shirt from a boutique that closed down last year (The Paisley Rooster). This is the shirt in the picture right above.

I invested in some new jeans this year, after losing a good bit of weight. Here is a link to these jeans that I love. I can't express how I feel about these jeans, friends. I love this wide leg on me, which I didn't think I would. I feel like they elongate my short legs, thus making me feel (and look) thinner. I ordered them in the petite length, and I recommend sizing down one from your regular size. These are two sizes smaller than my ones from last year, and they're perfect! I got this faded pair, and another darker pair.

I got this top above in a wine color. Here's a link for the website

Additionally in the fall, my nails get darker polish and my lip gloss also gets more earthy and darker.

My lip gloss is the only makeup that changes for me, though. I keep using all the regular products I always use for all of the seasons. I love that glowy/dewy look that I'm able to accomplish with inexpensive products...I plan on doing a post on this next week, so stay tuned!

It's your turn! What are your dressing habits in the changing seasons? What colors do you lean more towards? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. The jeans look so good on you and I am so glad you finally ordered new sized ones! Cute new top from MOCO. I think I have heard of that one. I'm sorry The Paisley Rooster closed! Good point about lips and nails changing, too. These outfits are just perfect for your new job and what you do after work, too! Love! Can't wait for makeup post - I threw out a bunch of old products because I just had too much!

    1. Thank you! I'm glad I ordered them too. I need to sort through what I have in my makeup too...I also need to do that in my closet. I keep adding, and not purging. There are a lot of dresses that I no longer wear or want since I've lost weight.

  3. Once the weather cools off I tend to reach for more earthy and regal colors too. I've been debating for nearly a year now about placing an order on Halara.. I mean I love their pants on both you and Amy and I'm pretty sure I'd love them on me too. But I really, really do not need any more pants!

  4. I am not sure if my comment posted so here goes again! I love your fall wardrobe and like you I tend to go for the muted and earthy colors. I cannot wait to wear all of my jeans as I go some new ones the past 2 years. Just waiting for the weather to cool off!

Ooops, then you won't like my post because It's all about seasonless colors. Great looks, Jenn

    1. To each their own! I do believe there are certain colors that do not belong within seasons. Thanks, my friend!

  7. I’d like to think I’m a seasonal dresser too, though sometimes I just need a pop of color to brighten up those dreary winter months! You always put together the cutest outfits. I have to ask — how tall are you? Your pants always seem to hit at the perfect length! And I have to say, I’m loving that nail color!

    1. Yes! I wholeheartedly agree, and come January I'm reaching for colors other than fall or red/green. I love jewel tones in the winter! Thank you for that! I'm only 5'3, so I either order petite length, or I hike them up to make them fall at the right length. It's my little hack!

You look great in all these outfits!!

I love when I can break out my pullover cable-knit sweaters and my boots. The time is nigh! I tend toward darker tones, too (dark green, navy, maroon, dark grey). I also wear a lot of black, but I'm a New Yorker, so..... lol.

I'm shopping around for a new winter coat since I need a replacement this year. It shall be black. :)

Hope your week is going well!

    1. Thank you! I love that, too...unfortunately, it doesn't get cool enough for me here to do that very often. I'm so hot natured, that I can barely stand being in sweaters or boots! I love all of those colors and think they're great! I need a new coat as well...I'm leaning toward camel colored, though. I hope your week has been great as well, my friend!

  11. I thought I was the only one who wore a darker lip in the fall! I love those jeans...I'm guessing they're Halaras! I really want a pair, but I'm only 5'1"! Love all the different looks!

  12. I follow MOCO, but haven't ordered from them. The top is cute! Love all your outfits!

  13. Not a fan of traditional fall colors, they're a little on the drab side for me. I'll take spring colors all year round, like Melania Trump's canary yellow dress with pink belt showcased at the recent government festivities in London.
