Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm here with Joyce again today for the weekly hodgepodge...this is a post that I dearly love; thank you, Joyce, for your inspiring and thought provoking questions each and every week! I'll jump right in!
1. What's something you find that is extremely difficult that most people would say is simple? Why am I struggling with this question? My mind is drawing a complete blank. I consulted Chat GPT, and this is what popped up:
"You seem to be someone who loves deeply—your sons, your family, your faith, your writing, your relationship, the people around you. People who care that much often carry a quiet tendency to keep looking ahead: the next responsibility, the next prayer, the next thing to fix, the next person to encourage. The simple thing is sitting in a good moment and saying, "This is enough for today."
Simple doesn't mean easy.
It can be surprisingly difficult to receive joy without immediately turning it into gratitude, a lesson, a plan, a memory to preserve, or a worry about how long it will last.
A sunset with your guy. A family dinner. A peaceful morning with a book. A laugh with your sons.
Sometimes the hardest thing is not creating, fixing, teaching, helping, or preparing.
Sometimes it's simply being there.
And allowing yourself to enjoy it."
Well, alrighty then. Why does this sum me up so well?
2. "And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow fast in movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer." —F. Scott Fitzgerald
Does the season of summer make you feel this way? Elaborate. I do feel this way about summer! I just feel like there is something magical about the days getting longer, the air getting warmer, and the prospect of sitting by a body of water and chatting with a friend or a significant other. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this with Marilyn on Monday! I love listening to music that screams summer and have playlists that I like to listen to during this season. I also love sunsets more at this time of year; they seem move vivid and spectacular than ever before. I love eating outside if it's not too hot and muggy, and bonus points for twinkling lights and great ambiance. I always loved date nights at this time of year, so I'm glad to have that chance this year with Chris.
3. Pickles. Love them or no thank you? What's your favorite type of pickle? What's something you eat that definitely needs a pickle included? I love pickles! I'm a purist and prefer the dill variety. I always enjoy a pickle with a sandwich or with chicken salad and crackers.
4. Tis the season...do you know any June brides? Are there any weddings on your summer calendar? What's your favorite movie wedding? I don't know any June brides, but a friend of mine has a daughter getting married this summer in August. I'm excited about going to this! I got the invitation in the mail recently, and it was addressed to me and Chris. I loved that! I don't know what my favorite movie wedding is...I know what it used to be, but that is no longer the case.
5. June 1st was National Say Something Nice Day...say something nice here. I'm going to quote a line from Steel Magnolias...maybe you'll recognize this.
"I'm pleasant! Damnit! I saw Drum Eatenton this morning at the Piggly Wiggly, and I smiled at the son of a bitch before I could help myself!"
Do you remember that quote? In that movie, Ouiser and Drum had a love/hate relationship; mostly it was hate. Ha! The reason I shared this quote is because I had such a moment last weekend; Jonah and I were talking and I sincerely asked him how his dad is doing. I haven't heard anyone say anything about him in a while, and I was genuinely curious, but also I said it in a nice way and with no agenda. I just made myself laugh at this statement, but ever since he's been remarried, things have been so peaceful! I don't say this lightly.
I also really liked this one that I saw when I was searching for her exact quote.
6. Insert your own random thought here. And with this last thought, I'll transition over to Currently with Amy.
This month I'm currently:
enjoying
being able to sit by/in a pool!
I'm currently wearing
pool attire and sunscreen!
I'm currently watching a few things...I alternate between movies and shows. I want to start watching Mad About You! I'm watching a couple of shows that I don't care about, so I may quit them.
I'm currently listening to a Ben Rector radio playlist as I write. I'm still listening to Ella Langley and Dandelion Radio on Spotify
I'm buying a few different things...one I'll share on Friday, so stay tuned. I bought some dresses recently that were on clearance...I'm crossing my fingers that they work! I need to buy a few wardrobe essentials that I'm missing. I need some casual summer clothing the most right now.
Thanks for reading my blog today, friends! I'm excited to read your answers to all of these prompts. I'll see you back here tomorrow! Love to all.

I struggled with question one too for the HP and kind of turned it around or sideways a bit to get my answer. I was curious what others would say/write- I know that what others write will likely resonate with me. The Chat answer is... interesting to say the least. The ST quote is funny! That pool looks pretty- how fun to spend a morning with Marilyn relaxing in it. I hope you guys have many more pool dates this summer :). Have a great day, friend!
ReplyDeleteAnd then I read what other people said, and think why didn't I just say that? I make things too complicated, I think. Ha! I remember when she said that in the movie, and cracking up. I loved her character in that movie. I feel like I want to watch that again soon. Thanks for that, friend! I hope you do the same!
DeleteI think I might try to blog today… I’m enjoying reading all of your link ups and answers :) I’m glad you are getting your pool time…we have a pool in our neighborhood and I always like the idea of walking down there and sitting next to it and never do. I’m not sure why? You are inspiring me to remember to do that :)
ReplyDeleteI just bought some lip sunscreen for myself this year. I don’t know that I’ve ever had burnt lips, but wondering if, as we age, everything gets more sensitive? I need to be better about wearing hats also!
You should definitely blog today : )
DeleteI agree! The Currently link up is open for a week! You should make yourself a little summer goals list and include walking down to your pool on it.
DeleteI hope you do come up with a blog post today! This is a good one to jump in on. I also hope you make time for some poolside activities soon, even if it's just sitting and gazing. It's so relaxing to me!
DeleteWe haven't been to our pool yet, or in the lake either. It's either been too cool or we've had other things going on. Friday evening our neighborhood has a pool party which will be fun. Most people won't be in the pool but some will I'm sure. I'm glad you got to hang out with Marilyn poolside! AI is a little freaky in terms of reading our minds. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI get that it's been too cool. I think this week changed everything for us in West Tennessee; we've had some hot weather! I was surprised at how great the water felt on Monday. Your neighborhood pool party sounds like fun! I do think AI is creepy sometimes. Ha!
DeleteThat ChatGPT thing is scary good! Omg! I find myself always trying to solve other peoples' problems. You down with OPP? Lol - that was a joke because the song is dirty. I also could take a lot of that advice. You are really having a true start to summer with lunches out and poolside chats. Love it. I haven't been to a pool yet! That is so nice to get an invitation with your and Chris' names on it.
ReplyDeleteRight? I thought the same thing. I got that song reference and immediately sang (rapped?) it when I read the words. I am loving the way my summer is starting. I hope you get to go to one soon!
DeleteChat GPT is currently being sued for encouraging teens to commit suicide. Alexa also did the same, in addition to telling children some inappropriate things. AI probably shouldn't be consulted for anything save recipes and directions to the supermarket.
ReplyDeleteOh I LOVE that movie! Gosh, I haven't watched Steel Magnolias in forever but I would absolutely remember that line.
ReplyDeleteI do too! I want to watch it again soon.
DeleteI feel the exact same way about summer that you do! It makes me so happy. Loved ChatGPT's response to you- sounds pretty accurate :)
ReplyDeleteI love that! It makes me happy, too, hot weather and all. Thanks, friend!
DeleteThat is something else what that chat thingy came up for you. A little scary. Sounds like you've had some summer fun already. Relaxing pool time talking with a friend sounds nice except for...I'd have to put a suit on. Happy June and happy summer time to you.
ReplyDeleteIt is creepy! I have had some summer fun already, and I'm loving it so far! Happy June to you!
DeleteWow! Chat GPT is scary sometimes with how deep it goes and how sometimes it gets things right.
ReplyDeleteThere really is something magical about summer, everything seems easier when the sun is shining.
Wow! That pool looks amazing! Outdoor pools like that are not a big thing here in England, I wish they were.
That AI answer is kinda creepy - it knows you so well!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a funny quote from Steel Magnolias!
ReplyDeleteDill pickles are 100% the best type of pickle!
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your "say something nice" quote...someone recently did something really hurtful to my husband, and the next time I saw him I smiled and said good morning. But as soon as I walked away I was mad at myself for being pleasant, so I guess I haven't come as far as I need to!
