the Wednesday hodgepodge

Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm linking up with Joyce for today's hodgepodge post. I'll jump right in!

1. This week's hodgepodge lands on Back to the Future Day...October 21, 2015 waw the date the movie characters Marty, Doc, and Jennifer traveled to in the future in the 1989 film Back to the Future Part 2. Did you see the movie? Tell us something you were doing in the fall of 2015. I did see the movie, but I don't remember much from it, honestly. Those weren't my favorite movies, but I did always love Michael J. Fox!

When I typed in the year 2015 into my Google photo search bar, this is the picture that popped up. I was enjoying a bonfire with these friends at another friend's house, the mom of my friend Laurie here in the red coat. This was taken at her mom Barbee's house; you've heard me talk about Barbee. I was in the throes of raising teenage boys in the fall of 2015; they would have been 15, 14, and 11. I was a youth leader for teenage girls and attending all the bonfires and pumpkin patch excursions. Graham had his first girlfriend the next year, but he'd had his eye on her for a while. Drew was "dating" this friend Laurie's daughter Emma, and Jonah and Noah were loving being at their ages in middle school and hanging out with friends. Those were the days!

I'm still friends with these people, fyi. Kim on the left is who rode with me a little over a year ago when I had to take something to my ex-husband...I needed someone with me and she jumped into helping me when I reached out to her. Young Lindsey is still someone I see, too and I just ran into her in Old Navy on Saturday! And then Laurie has been around for ages, though we don't ever hangout. I love these women!

2. Which b-e-r month is your favorite? Explain why. I would say October is my favorite month ending in b-e-r. It's the month when the weather finally catches up to the calendar; it's fall break month, and the leaves just ever so slightly start to change from green to the brilliant colors we see each year. Leaves begin to fall off the oak trees in my neighborhood, and the air carries with it a sense of change.

3. Red, yellow, orange, bronze...your favorite fall color to wear? To eat? To see in nature? Of these, my favorite color to wear would be a taupe/bronze color. I have two tops that are this color, and I love them both. To eat? I'll say yellow, because I love squash at this time of year. I think I most love to see red trees in nature.

4. What do you miss about being 20? I'm not sure I miss being twenty; I knew nothing then, and now I know so many things. I have gained wisdom, discernment, and how to be a better judge of character. I've learned how to say no to things that don't bring me joy. I've learned how to guard what is mine: my peace, my time, and the people I keep close. On a lighter note, does anyone remember what it feels like to not be so achy?! I miss that, for sure!

5. We're roughly three quarters of the way through the year. What's one goal, habit, or mindset you want to purposely carry into the final weeks of the year? Elaborate. I want to keep writing in my journal. I want to read more. I want to spend time reflecting on what this year has meant to be and hope for all that is to come in 2027.

I am hopeful, and these verses are some of my favorites right now that I've been leaning on the last couple of months.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I need to make a festive nighttime trip to the square sometime soon. All of this will be gone soon, and replaced with Christmas!

Thanks for reading my blog today, friends! I'll see you back here tomorrow. Love to all!
