Friday Favorites, 10.7.22

Happy Friday, friends! I'm linking up with Andrea and Erika for my favorite blog post of the week. How has your week been? Mine went by SO FAST. Work was extremely busy this week and the days went by quickly because of that reason, most likely. We had sent out a bunch of letters and started getting responses this week, so the phones were ringing off the wall for three days straight. Also, our spreadsheet got off on the line adjustments somehow and some letters were sent to clients that didn't live at the place it was addressed to. I brought home the laptop and a phone on Monday and worked an additional couple of hours. We finally all got caught up by Thursday and yesterday the phones were quiet all day. Praise! I still love my job, by the way. Who knew that office work would be one of my favorite things?!

This was me on my way out the door and I was feeling confident about myself on this particular day. My hair cooperated, and I got to put my adorable denim jacket to good use. I wore it with a black dress and sandals and I had just given myself a pedicure in the wee hours of the early morning. Also, my sister Debi gave me my new favorite lipstick—it's by Mac and it's chocolate brown. I have it on in the picture above, and I use an almond nude color to lighten it up a bit. I remember showing this to my friend Dedee and thinking I'd never be brave enough to wear it, but look at me wearing it and loving it. I used to wear dark lipstick in high school, thanks to the lovely 90's grunge phase I went through. 🤣

These are my favorite memes/internet sayings from this week.

How true are all of those?!

Going to the farmer's market and pumpkin patch over the weekend with Mom and Trish was a favorite. Who doesn't love a pumpkin patch? I guess it really wasn't a "patch", but just a place where they're sold. Look how pretty they all were! They had tons of warty gourds and those stacking pumpkins that are wildly popular right now. I didn't buy anything, though, because their prices seemed really high.

This night of praise was my favorite. My parents all came to this, but Dad is the only one I thought to get a picture with. Honestly, I get a lot of pictures with him these days, because I never know when it's going to be my last chance. I promise that I never take a day for granted with him...with all of our parents, but he's just the oldest at 91.

I love these nights! We used to have them every few months, but after covid, we cut back to three a year. We always have one in the fall, one for Christmas and one in the spring. I love that our kids choir joins in with us on these nights and they're always extremely moving. I can't believe I'm about to do this here, but a couple of you mentioned that you'd like to hear the song that I had the solo on, so here it is below, for anyone who is interested.

And in case anyone wants to watch the night of praise, here it is below. It's one hour long, but it was really good!

It's one of my favorite things in all of the world to come home and eat lunch in front of a movie. Do you know what this one is?

It's When Harry Met Sally. It's such a good fall movie and I love Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal together. Would you believe I only watched this for the first time a year ago? Can we even still be friends?

This new sweater is my favorite! It's from Target, but I can't remember the brand. It's the most flattering mocha color and I can wear it with anything. I wore it with this fall graphic tee on Wednesday, but the week before, I wore it with a blush colored shirt.

It's definitely my new favorite wardrobe staple.

I made a double recipe of our favorite quiche this week for the ladies at Bible study. This is always a crowd pleaser and both dishes came back home with me empty. That's always the tell-tale sign of a good dish. I tweak the ingredients, but it's 5 eggs, 3/4 cup of milk and 1/4 teaspoon each of salt, pepper, nutmeg and hot sauce. I add one cup each of diced ham, shredded cheese and spinach and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Sometimes I sprinkle in some parmesan as well. It's the best! I use store bought pie crusts to make it easier.

And last but not least, my favorite this week was celebrating twenty six years of being married to this handsome fella.

Am I the only one who thinks we age into much more attractive people than who we were when we were young? Only me? We went to our favorite restaurant to celebrate and I took pictures for you!

We spend every special occasion eating here, at Jim's Place Grille. It's locally owned and I even grew up going here, though it was just called Jim's Place East back then and in a different location. This location isn't nearly as ambient as the old place, but it doesn't matter, because the food is THAT good. The service is always excellent. We started with ordering cocktails—he ordered a mule and I ordered this delicious peach martini.

Then we started by ordering beef tenderloin for an appetizer.

This was mouth wateringly amazing. It came with little pita bread wedges and some delicious lemony pesto sauce for dipping. He had the chicken kabobs and I had chicken parmesan for our entrees, then we shared a skillet cookie for dessert. We were STUFFED even though we didn't finish our plates, so we decided it was a good night to come home and walk the dogs.

It was the perfect night with a lot of real life thrown in, which says "married for 26 years" best. We've had dog issues all week and they've been sick in some way or another, so of course we spent some of that day dealing with that. I went to bed pretty early after that, because I came home to shower after the walk.

I will wrap this up with one last favorite thing, which was thinking back on a fun trip to the Cape Cod area with my sisters.

Looking back on the memories has been a favorite of mine this week and yesterday morning I ordered a Chat Book full of these pictures. I can't wait to get it and to set it out to display.

To read my other blog posts from the week, I'll break them down for you below:

Monday I shared a recap of my trip to the Cape Cod.

  1. There's too much to comment on - that peach martini look amazing! I love your graphic tee sweater combo and that is what I'm gonna wear today. I got a new graphic tee to replace the one I got rid of because it was in bad shape. What a full and good week you had!

  2. I am a sucker for a cute pumpkin patch no matter if the pumpkins are grown there or not ;). Love the lipstick colors and the new clothes. I am forever in search of the perfect lipstick color and right now a lipstick from cheap(er) brand is my favorite one. That dinner out sure looks good! Have a great weekend!

  5. Thanks, Maria! That makes me feel better about the place I called the pumpkin patch. It really was in the cutest setting, so that has to count for something, right? I am like that too with lipsticks...my all time favorite right now is a Neutrogena lipstick pencil in the color "almond nude". I line my whole lip in a slightly darker shade by NYX and then put the color on top and that's what you see in 95% of the pictures I share here.

I hope you have a great weekend!

  10. Oh, Jennifer thank you so much for posting the video of your solo. I'm sitting here crying and all choked up at your beautiful voice and the beautiful words of the song.We have never sung this one at church so it's the first time that I have heard it. "when the day's you've ordained are past and when I have lived them all at last when heaven waiting just ahead and this body takes it's final breath" .Those words have just spoken right to my heart. Your post was just so amazing to read and I pray that you have many more wonderful moments with your Dad. It's so good to remember never to take any of these precious moments for granted. Having lost my beautiful mum earlier this year at the age of 94. I treasure every single memory I have of the two of us. God bless you Jennifer and I hope you have the most wonderful weekend xxx

  12. Oh my gosh! When Harry Met Sally is my favorite movie of all time (I knew it from the photo). I've seen it dozens of times. I always say that my husband is my real life harry. We met. Dated. I decided he was too old for me. We stopped dating. Hung out. Lost touch. I got married. I got divorced. We found our way back to each other. I've known him for probably close to 30 years, been back together for about 14 and married 12.

PS - I love that cardigan. I always love a good cardigan you can just throw on with anything. I also love your lip color. Have a great weekend!

  15. Thank you, Ruth! I'm so glad that song ministered to your heart. The Lord is so good to us to do that for us! This is one reason out of a million as to why I love music so much. I know you miss your mom! I try to enjoy all the moments that I am given with our parents! Time is so short.
