thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday, friends! What a week. I can't believe that the last day I was at work was January 23rd. Yesterday was my eighth snow day; hopefully as you read this, I'm getting dressed to return to work. We'll see! (It's Wednesday morning before nine a.m. as I write.)

(Updated to say that I'm on snow day number nine.)

Here's what I'm thankful for this week:

  • extended time with Jesus every morning
  • the living, active word of God (My pastor always says this means that as we read the Bible, the Bible reads us. This is why we see "new" things each time we read, even if we've read it through each year for over a decade.)
  • music...we sang an incredible song in church last week, and it's been on repeat ever since (Trust in God by Elevation Worship)
  • time at home to get things taken care of (I've had to make so many phone calls this week)
  • sunshine
  • rain on Tuesday that melted a good portion of the ice on my road/driveway
  • texting with friends
  • long talks on the phone to catch up with my best friend
  • my sisters (I literally can't imagine life without them)
  • my mom
  • extra time at home to give myself spa treatments
  • being able to focus on a book again
  • silly things to do online that make me laugh (the caricature trend)
  • beauty in the landscape of my neighborhood
  • late nights watching tv
  • lunch with friends on the days when schools are closed in my town
  • being able to be treated by a chiropractor, who also happens to be my good friend
  • choir practice after two weeks of missing (one for sickness, one for icy roads)

What are you thankful for this week? I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!

  1. So much to be thankful for! :) Ok why are you still out of school? Is it snow or ice? Wow! Enjoy the downtime

    1. I feel the same! I'm still out of school because of the ice on the roads. While a lot of it has melted, we're not getting above freezing enough for it to dry. It'll melt in the daylight, then it'll refreeze. I've enjoyed some extra time at home, but I'm so ready to see "my" kiddos and work friends.

  2. This is your winter break 2.0. Crazy! What did we do to Mother Nature? I hope you are able to get out in your car by yourself at this point. The busses are another story. I worry about the kids at home who don't have great home lives or enough food.
Send me a scarf photo later today!

    1. It really is, and that's what everyone is calling it! That made me laugh. I thought yesterday how it did worse than what my worst nightmare was. Ha! I'm able to get out and about and plan on going somewhere again today. You're exactly right; it's the busses that are not safe with the students. That's what people don't understand; there are parents here who are furious their kids aren't back in school yet. I will when I get dressed! I might try to wear it today and test out your scarf theory. Happy Thursday!

What wonderful things to be thankful for. It sounds like you have made the most of the extra time that you have had.

  4. Oh the former school based speech pathologist in me wonders if the students were able to do virtual learning or how will those day be made up? But driving on ice is dangerous! Here is to warmer weather and melting ice for you !

    1. Thank you! We have eight snow days built in that won't have to be made up; I think there's something waiving us from making up these last two, because it was considered a natural disaster. It'll all melt this weekend, thankfully!

  5. I am thankful to go back to work for the first time in two weeks. We've had school in the past two weeks but this was the first day that I could sub. It was kinda hard to go back since I'd gotten used to not working, but I knew it would be for the best to sub.

    1. I know! We won't have to make these days up. We had eight built in, and the other two are being waived since this was considered a natural disaster.
