Happy Friday, friends! I hope you've had a good week! I'll recap the weekend on Monday and the rest of the Louisville trip on Tuesday, so I hope you come back for those. I thought I'd talk about what Marilyn and I did on Monday before we left Louisville to head home. The night before, Mar asked if I was in a hurry to get home, and when I said no, she asked if we could take a detour, so we did just that. We drove by The Brown Hotel first, then we made our way to Churchill Downs for a tour of the property!
It was surreal!
I wasn't excited at all, clearly!
While Mar shopped before the tour started, I took this picture of myself with a Derby hat and sent it to some favorite people.
Then I walked to the gift shop to look around. Bourbon is everywhere in Kentucky, and I thought this bottle was pretty.
This building behind the white fence is where the horses come out on Derby day! I was fangirling a little bit, I won't lie. I'm not a huge fan of the Kentucky Derby, but I've watched it for years; I'm fascinated with the history and the pageantry of it all.
We started the tour with a phenomenal eighteen minute movie on how the Derby was started, then the tour began.
I loved seeing the names of the winners from the past Derby races.
We took turns taking pictures of each other under one of the twin spires that Churchill Downs is famous for.
And then, we got to go down to the track! We were so close that we could smell the dirt!
We guessed that this was a security team...and I shared this picture in an IG story saying that we were enjoying the sights of Louisville before we left to come back home. 🤣
One last picture of a favorite memory, then we left to drive back home! It was an amazingly fun trip, and we laughed ourselves silly the entire way back. At one point we started laughing so hard that I couldn't catch my breath, and it called for an unexpected stop at the next exit. Those are my favorite times!
What was a favorite of yours this week? I'd love to hear! Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!
Jenn ❤️
I'm glad that you guys stopped there on your way home! It looks like a neat tour and I'll bet most people touring were pretty excited about the race, seeing as how close in time it was to the Derby. I thought it was neat to be in Louisville generally so close to the Derby. I don't think I've ever watched it on TV. However, I do like the traditions surrounding the event. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am too! The energy was electric with it being Derby week. I will definitely be watching with fresh eyes tomorrow night! Mar and I are going out to watch it at a fun place to hang out. Happy Friday to you!
DeleteI will have tv on today for the Oaks and then watch at least the Derby race tomorrow. It will make watching it mean more for you! I am so glad you did this and enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing! I'm so glad we did this; it was a great way to spend $27 to end the trip. I hope you have a great day, friend!

ReplyDeleteIt was such a fun day! I missed your blog this morning; I know you'll be excited to get your new computer tomorrow. The day and the ride home was something I will always remember. We've definitely crossed a new line in our friendship, thanks to my companion that lives in my car! 🤣
DeleteWhat a great day out! Churchill Downs sounds like a fantastic place to visit. The Kentucky Derby sounds a lot like the Grand National horse race that we have over here. So much history.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like so much fun!
