Happy Monday, friends! How was your weekend? I'm linking up with Holly and Sarah to talk about mine.
Once again, I don't have a lot of pictures. I don't know when this will start back up, but I'll share what I can when I finally start taking some again. On Friday after work, I followed through with a hard decision I made about the dog Chris and I accidentally got back in January. Reese was the dog we got for his dad, but then Joe changed his mind about her. When I reached out to him last week, I begged him to take one of Chris' dogs, and he took me up on that. So on Friday, I sobbed the whole way home from work (and throughout the whole day I cried), packed her up, loved on her some more, and then drove her to meet Joe and his girlfriend. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do, but I was immediately relieved following this. I had wanted to keep her, but I am just not in a place in life where I want my own dog. I don't know that I ever will again, honestly, but I love other people's dogs! I'm so grateful Joe took her, and think they'll make the very best of companions.
Immediately following me dropping Reese with Joe and Marta, I met Marilyn for dinner; I'd asked to go out for Mexican and a margarita, since I knew I'd be staying home Saturday night. It was a good decision, since both were delicious! I was super emotional after having dropped Reese off with Chris' dad, so I was so glad to be with a friend. I was okay by the time she got there; after dinner we went back to her house. I stayed until close to nine, then I needed to leave to go let my friend's dog out for her; I dog sat for my friend Heather this weekend.
They followed me home, and it was so nice! We ate leftovers for dinner and just sat around talking as it thunder stormed outside until close to nine. I was so tired from all the sun that day, but it was a good kind of tired.
I went to my new church yesterday! I walked in alone; Jonah had a little accident on his four wheeler this weekend and didn't feel well enough to come with me. I totally understood that and was just fine walking in on my own. That kind of thing has never bothered me. After church, I went to Kroger and got a few things for my lunches, then I came home and piddled around the house. I also took a little nap on my bed, which was decadent. I cleaned, I vacuumed, then I finished laundry. I ate dinner and watched Grey's Anatomy while I worked on my blog for the week, then I got the exciting news that we have a two hour delay tomorrow due to storm damage from Saturday night. I'm thankful that I didn't have any damage, but plenty of people did.
I was entertained by the dogs for the rest of the night. It was a great Sunday, and honestly the whole weekend felt that way. It was a good blend of being out and being at home with my sons and then alone. I am not sure how my day will feel; I was emotional on Friday, and I feel like I'll be the same way today. Chris' dogs are going to a rescue today, and my friends are taking them for me. I know it's something I have to do, but it doesn't hurt any less. Please pray for them, that they will adjust and be adopted by loving people. And please pray for me to have the strength to say goodbye this morning. This is the final little piece of him that I'm letting go of physically. I'll continue to carry him in my heart, of course, but there's finality with today.
Thank you! I made myself cry writing that. I'll see you back here tomorrow. Love to all.
Jen 🖤

I hope everything goes well with the drop off and that Chris' dogs find new homes quickly. Your weekend of spending time with friends and family sounds like a good one :).
ReplyDeleteThank you, friend. I just pray they're okay there. I know that Chris would not want me keeping them, because they're too much for me. I have to keep reminding myself of this.
DeleteAw, I hope all goes well with all the dogs and their new homes/owners. It does sound like you had a real lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the well wishes!
DeleteYou should have kept her, maybe Joe will change his mind if she's too active and dump her in a shelter. People are unpredictable at times.
ReplyDeleteComments like this are unpredictable and uncalled for. Please be kind.
DeleteNot meant to be unkind at all. I did a lot of volunteer work at shelters in the past, people in general can be unpredictable and unstable when it comes to the animals they adopt. I've seen the trauma and confusion in their faces when left at a shelter or worse of all, on the street. One can never be too cautious when re-homing pets, follow-up afterward with the new owner is always a good idea.
DeleteAnon. #1...I don't need this negativity in my life. How about you walk in my shoes for a bit, and then chime in?
DeleteAnon. #2, thank you. I appreciate you standing up for me.
DeleteAnon. #1, then why not just state it differently or not at all? I don't need to be thinking about that. And honestly, he won't get rid of her because it's a piece of his son, and the only thing he really has left of him.
DeleteAwww, I understand the emotions involved with this. It's so hard. Since Chris originally intended for Reese to be his dad's companion, maybe this is how it was supposed to turn out? Maybe she will make him a better and happier man; dogs have the power to do that. As for the other two, I pray that they will find a happy home, too. I hope you feel peace in this difficult decision. And the timing of having a 2-hour delay seems good for you today. I am sorry that it comes with storm destruction for some.
ReplyDeleteYour Friday night and Saturday sound nice and you seem to have done well yesterday, too.
I continue to think of you and pray for you.
It's hard, but I'm also looking forward to having my home back. They are so much to deal with! Even as I write this right now, they're out there barking. It's so annoying; I've gotten used to having non barking dogs, and it's nice. I do think that will happen with Reese and Joe. He's been sending me pics of her; she seems so happy, and I think it's good for him to have something to care for. It'll give him purpose. I made his girlfriend promise me that she would help look after her and make sure she's being treated right.
DeleteThank you for all of this, friend. You've been on my mind a lot as well with today arriving.
You are so very strong and inspirational- you got this my friend. Wishing you a peaceful and joyful day and week ahead! XO
ReplyDeleteThank you, friend! I try to keep reminding myself of that.
DeleteSending love and hugs, it must have been so hard giving the dog to Joe but it sounds like the right decision. I hope the others find good homes too. That is good you could have some time with Marilyn afterwards. It sounds like a lovely time was had in the pool and with your boys. I hope Jonah is OK after his accident. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, sweet friend! It wasn't the easiest, but I feel I made the right decision. I'm grateful that he took her!
DeleteMy biggest prayer is that those sweet, innocent pups find loving homes. Our pups have always been rescue dogs, and it does take a special person to help them transition to a new lifestyle. We were the third placement for our sweet Harley and he was part of our family for 11 of his 14 years. Sending big prayers from Waco!
ReplyDeleteMine, too. Thank you, friend! I love that story.
DeleteHi there. My family has been praying for you since I read the news on your blog last week. I told my boys that I didn't know you in person but I felt like I did since I had read your blog for months now, so know that in North Carolina you have a family who pray for you nightly. I think you made a good decision about the dogs. I love dogs but I don't like to have them, it really hinders travling and being free to go as you please, and I think you enjoy that as well. I know it will be so hard, I cant' even imagine, but your joy always inspires me. I'm so glad to know your blog and to follow you, you're a big inspiration!
ReplyDeleteOh, sweet friend. Thank you so very much for the prayers spoken on my behalf. I feel them all the time, and know that God is strengthening me through those prayers of His saints. I do feel like I made the right decision about the dogs. I'm grateful to have found a place and pray they get adopted out. I appreciate your kind words!
DeleteYou made the right decision about the dogs, and I hope nice people find their way to them. P.S.-please don't let comments like anon up there rock your fragile equilibrium right now. Okay, now on to other things...the family pool day sounds great! What a blessing. So glad your boys are surrounding you with their love and attention. Take care and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I know what a hard decision that was about all of the dogs. But you did the right thing. I will pray that everything falls into place and that they find good homes. The swimming sounds divine!
