Happy Tuesday, friends! I thought I'd share about things I love doing to make an evening at home feel more luxurious. I hope you're inspired!
I love to have a fire in the fireplace when the weather is cold. I only started doing this for the first time in a couple of years just recently. I am scared of inside fires, honestly, but now that I've started this I will continue.
I love to use one of the many mugs that I have to eat things like soup, cereal, or ice cream in. I believe in things like using pretty mugs for this kind of thing, eating on real plates instead of paper, and using cloth napkins instead of paper. If more than one person is here with me to eat, I'll use paper napkins, but when it's just me I will always pick the cloth ones that Mom made for me several years ago.
I use them all year long, because they're reversible.
I also believe in doing things like having music playing, having surfaces cleaned off, and having a basket of blankets close by on those cold nights. I'm a seasonal music gal; I have it playing almost all day long when I'm at home and my playlists change with the seasons.
I like having books or magazines near by in case I'm tempted to pick up one to read.
I like for my bed to be made everyday. Do you do this? It really does get my day started off on the right foot. I mention it here, because I love to climb into a bed that's been straightened already.
I like for my kitchen to be clean on the nights when I cook at home.
I like to keep my closet as clean as possible; it's easier to maintain once you clean it thoroughly. I have been practicing hanging up or folding stuff the minute I take it off if it's not going into the dirty clothes basket.
On the nights when I'm in for the evening, I like to be comfy. My favorite thing to do is to shower and wash my hair early enough so that it'll dry before I go to bed. I love to have a clean, moisturized face on the nights in!
I will sometimes use the nights that I'm at home to give myself a pedicure or a facial.
I do a little maintenance work while I'm at home, meaning that I do things to keep the house picked up and clean for the week.
What are the things you like to do to make your evenings at home more pleasurable? I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!
Jenn ❤️

I definitely do some of the things that you mentioned here. I do like my bed to be made. The bedroom looks really sloppy if the bed is not made. I agree about using lamps- I always use lamps. As for the kitchen, Donnie installed dimmers on all of the lights including the canned lights so when I light them or any light that can be dimmed, I usually use the lowest setting so the light is dim. These are all great things habits to have at home on nights in :).
ReplyDeleteMy mom taught me to make my bed everyday at a young age; I didn't get the importance of that then, but I do now! It's one small thing we can do for ourselves to get the day started off well. I love that your husband installed dimmer lights in your kitchen! That helps tremendously, I'm sure. Thanks for that, friend! Happy Tuesday!
DeleteI do all of these things, too. I am limited in the things I can have on the coffee table right now due to a certain someone whose initials are EO. These things make the house a home. I love cloth napkins. Ours are old but very soft and it's just so much nicer than a paper towel or napkin. I would like to get a nicer set for company. Have you seen cloth cocktail napkins? Maybe I will get some of those, too. I am hoping to have people over more.
ReplyDeleteI know you do! I get the coffee table items; I've definitely lost a few things along the way, but they ignore it all now. I haven't seen cloth cocktail napkins! I love cloth napkins so much; these feel so nice that I have. The material is soft and smooth, and not gritty the way cloth napkins are. I love having people over!
DeleteOh I loved reading this- felt warm and cozy just looking at all the things you do- I love lighting candles and making the lighting cozy and warm as well. I love to read and scroll and also catch the evening news so I am in the know. Nothing wild and crazy here but these things help me decompress :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend! I love the act of lighting candles. I also love to watch and scroll...this is why I watch shows on repeat so often. Anything feels great to decompress, right?
DeleteAhh! I do love lighting a candle and I would love a proper fireplace in my home. I imagine they are so cosy! I eat soup from a mug but never think of using them for ice cream or cereal! That is genius! I make my bed every day because of you! You mentioned it a few times a long while ago and I started doing it and it does make me feel like I have my together. Your evenings at home sound lovely!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you would love that! I do enjoy eating other things from coffee mugs; I have so many that it's fun to choose different ones. I love that you make your bed as well!
DeleteI do pretty much all of these things too; though I don't light candles every day.
ReplyDeleteI don't light them all the time either...like on Monday night. I was way too tired to think about this list, ha!
DeleteLove this fun list! I am with you on these, although I don't make my bed every day anymore, but I use to in the past.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend! I went for a while without making my bed, while I was going through my divorce. But that didn't make me feel any better, so I started doing it again. It brings me great joy!
DeleteThese are great ideas! I'm much more inspired to do {most} of them in the morning, when I am fresh. I have a hard time resetting at night, but these are all good ideas - especially on a weekend evening maybe when the stress of the workday isn't present. I would *love* to use cloth napkins - maybe someday. My family knows that it's a RARE occasion that I would allow paper plates or plastic utensils for anything.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend! I get that. I love what you said about using disposable things! I was the same way and would keep paper products around for larger get togethers, but it was real everything for all of us most the time.
DeleteLove all of this! I light candles in the morning when I know I'm going to be home for a few hours (I pour candles as my job, so am surrounded! ;) and every night about an hour before I go to bed I light a lavender candle in my bedroom, and I use lavender linen spray on my sheets and pillow! I have a hard time sleeping and definitely need the wind down. I also shower at night and often do a sheet mask - I have recently found an amazing one if you are interested - it's Pacifica's Stress Rehab and it's the best I've ever tried. I've also made the switch to cloth napkins and I love them.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love that you do that for a living with candles. How fun! Thanks for the face mask recommendation!
DeleteWhen my husband goes away, my naughty thing is not making the bed! Ha! That and sleeping with the curtains open so Sunrise wakes me (and the last thing I see is the city lights in the distance - no one can see in).I love your outdoor lights. How lovely! #TalkaboutitTuesday
ReplyDeleteI definitely do some of the things you mentioned. I use lamp light as well, not a fan of the overheads.
ReplyDeleteVisiting today from Talking About It Tuesday.
