the Wednesday hodgepodge

Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm here with Joyce again today for the weekly hodgepodge...this is a post that I dearly love; thank you, Joyce, for your inspiring and thought provoking questions each and every week! I'll jump right in!

1. Are you feeling more reset, restart, or full speed ahead as we move ahead into May? Tell us why. I definitely feel more full speed ahead as the calendar turns to May this week. I'm excited about summer break! I know I'll be working, but it'll be a shortened schedule and way different. I can't wait to find out if I actually got hired or not. I'll find out soon! The weeks are going to fly by; I realized today that we have two and a half weeks left of intervention for the students. so that last week will be one that I work solely in my classroom.

I am excited about doing more of the decorating in the classroom this coming school year; isn't it crazy that I'm already thinking ahead like that?

2. Painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, cinema, theater, music...what's your favorite form or art? Elaborate. I have always been an admirer or architecture and I follow several accounts on Instagram that allow me to see that. My favorite form of art, by far, is music. I have it going almost nonstop at my home. I've also loved theater my whole life and have enjoyed going to see plays this year.

3. What time is dinner at your house? How do you feel about leftovers? Dinner last night was at 5:30; it depends on how hungry I am, though. Sometimes I like to wait until six or six thirty, but more often than not I'm starving by then. I love leftovers!

4. What's the last thing you recently fell down a rabbit hole investigating? I laughed when I read this question! This happens to me regularly, I will have you know. The last time I fell down that rabbit hole was over the weekend when I saw a house that I loved. I love looking on Realtor or Zillow to see what homes cost in different parts of the country. I love to do this with homes in New England.

5. And now for a question from the book Marilyn (Memphis Bridges) gave me...

At what are you self taught? I taught myself to do a lot of things! I taught myself to tie my own shoes, to swim, to dive...I could probably go on, but as a leftie, nobody could teach me how to tie my shoes, because nobody knew I was a leftie yet.

6. Insert your own random thought here. As I write this blog post, I'm sitting in Marilyn's home watching Jonah and Noah hang curtains for her. I love this!

Also...one year ago this week, I was still fangirling over the Derby events and the tour I'd taken with Mare at Churchill Downs.

I posted this to celebrate last year. I kind of love this picture!

I can't wait to read your answers to the prompts this week!  Thanks for being here to read mine, friends. Love to all!

  1. I was just thinking how fun it will be for you and Marilyn to watch the Derby this year after taking the tour!
How sweet of them to hang her curtains!
You are really winding down the school year. I am sorry you don't know about summer yet. I'm so excited for your first summer off! It will be fantastic whether you work the program or not. It will just hit differently!

    1. It will be! I am excited to watch again. We loved watching it last year and made it a whole thing that night of the race. It was so much fun because we had just been there that very week! I'm so excited about the school year winding down; it feels great for this first year to be almost under my belt, so to speak. I'm excited for the ones to come! We have lots of change coming, though...so part of me is dreading that. My sweet friend and principal is leaving us for another position in the district, and we're all a little apprehensive. I can't wait for summer! I need a pool ASAP.

  2. They did a great job too; Marilyn's curtains look wonderful. I am constantly falling down the rabbit hole of looking things up. In fact I wrote my post on Monday (it will go up on the blog tomorrow) but last night I fell down the rabbit hole of reading up on all kinds of things having to do with CT property taxes...and found we are 3rd highest in the nation. No wonder I'm always complaining about ours!

    1. I think they did, too, and by "they", I mean Jonah. Noah was there to visit and help. I love that three out of my four sons have been to her home now! I laughed when I read this...I constantly do the same kind of thing. That's terrible about your property taxes! I would be complaining, too.

  3. So nice to have your boys there to lend a hand with the curtains. We always have music playing here too, and in nice weather we spend our evenings on the deck listening to music. I will have a houseful of grandkids this year on Derby Day. I'm sure my hubs will need a mint julep lol. Have a great day!

    1. They're pretty nice guys. I loved having them there with me, and they were blown away by her beautiful home! I could see their wheels turning about their future and where they might end up someday. That sounds like it'll be a fun Derby day! I want to try a mint julep; I've never had one! Thanks for hosting us each week! I hope the same for you, my friend.

  4. How wonderful to have the summer break to look forward to and decorating the classroom.
I love looking at houses for sale, especially the one's I know I could never afford. Where we live the houses are not that expensive compared to further down south in London. Eek!
How great to have Jonah and Noah helping out.

  6. Jenn, it's nice meeting you. I'm joining Joyce for Hodgepodge this week. It's the first time in a really long time for me. I totally relate to non-stop music in the home. That's me! You might like hop over to enjoy tunes with me for Monday's Music Moves Me, even if you don't play along. ;) Your dinner looks yummy! I love to cook! This is the one thing I totally benefited from the forced government shut down. It gave me the opportunity to learn how to make pizza crust so I can make homemade pizza, breads, and whole lot of other things I wanted to do, but never got around to. Cooking and baking was my way to de-stress during with the world in going crazy mode. Have a blessed week! ~CAAC

    1. I loved us all being there! I feel the same about the Derby tour last year; it was a highlight that I never knew I needed for me as well. I want to go back!

  8. Lefties have a tough life! Our daughter is a leftie (and I knew since she was like 6 months old), and nobody could teach her how to tie her shoes. Finally, when my SIL was visiting one day, I asked her to show my daughter- leftie to leftie. She showed her ONE TIME, and our daughter had it down. Honestly, I love the little leftie bond that they have!
