Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm linking up with Joyce for today's hodgepodge post. I'll jump right in!
1. How do you feel about the transition from lazy summer days to a busier fall routine? Well, given my current life, I am so thankful to have a busier routine right now. I love the summer and having time off, but I also thoroughly enjoy my job. It feels fulfilling right now, which is what I need. My fall routine isn't that busy, though. I anticipate doing things with co-workers and going to some Friday Night Lights (when I'm able to go and not sweat half to death).
I can't wait to reunite with my sisters in a few weeks!
2. Your favorite cookie? Can you beat a homemade chocolate chip cookie? I think not.
The ones from Chick Fil A are my favorite.
3. What's something you've learned from a culture different from your own? While in Iceland, I learned that people don't have last names; they're known as so and so's daughter or son. For instance, our friend Gudny had a son, and the last name of that young man was Gudnyson. I found that interesting! I also learned that people don't tell people happy birthday there; they congratulate the mom instead.
4. Food critic, film critic, book critic, art critic...which hat would you like to wear? Tell us why. I would definitely choose the food critic hat! I'm such a foodies and thoroughly enjoy good food. I love figuring out new things that I love and experiencing different types of cuisines. It would be a bonus if I could write about it as well!
5. What's a small, random thing from your childhood that you still remember clearly? The feeling of a new school year with new supplies and the smell of the stuff they put on the floor when a kid vomits are two things that are ingrained into my head from now until the end of time.
6. Insert your own random thought here. Remember when my life changed drastically and I couldn't focus on reading? Well now I can't focus on TV, so I'm reading. Or I'm watching Grey's Anatomy all over again. Isn't trauma weird? Well, so is grief, for that matter. Also, while I didn't cry on Monday, I cried a few times yesterday. It's so humbling.
Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. I'll see you back here tomorrow.
Jen
p.s. I mentioned it yesterday as well, but this Saturday it's time for Share 4 Somethings once again! I hope you make plans to join!

Those cookies are so good! I am so glad you have a job you love!
ReplyDeleteThey are! Me too. If I've thanked God for it once, I've thanked Him for it a million times.
DeleteOh yes, grief and trauma are weird for sure! I have made it nearly a week or perhaps even a week and a half without any tears and then yesterday I just felt so incredibly sad out of no where for a good hour or two and kept tearing up.
ReplyDeleteIt really is weird! I expected to be sad Monday over the dogs, but I wasn't. It hit me yesterday, though, and came out of nowhere. My sweet friend Karen had me crying in her room before my afternoon dismissal. And then I cried when I got home and opened up condolence cards. I hate having to get them! I'm sorry you had a hard day yesterday. I am right there with you.
DeleteWhat interesting cultural differences in Iceland! Your food pics all look so good. Chocolate chip cookies are hard to beat but I think there are some pretty good contenders...
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Thank you; I really would love to be a food critic, but I'd be kind and talk about what I appreciate about each thing, even if I disliked whatever it was. I know there are some good contenders! I'm a purist, though.
DeleteI love that about Iceland - both congratulating the mom and the "son" for their name - and I love that you are loving your routine and your job. I think being busy but also having time to process are important right now. I get that a show that is comforting and you've watching before might be all you can focus on. I'm glad you are reading, though. Crying is healthy! I am happy you have sister time to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI do too! I've said it to my mom several times on my birthday since I learned that. You are so right; staying busy is helping me, and so is being tired when I get home to crash. Crying is healthy, I just hate it when it happens out of nowhere. It feels so good to be able to start looking forward to things again! I really am slowly coming back to life, it seems.
DeleteI like the Chick Fil-A cookies. Grief and trauma go hand in hand. My hub passed away in 2018 from colon cancer and then my beautiful daughter who was 32 and a pharmacist passed away in 2020 from a heart defect. I still talk to my daughter and cry. I retired from teaching, but when daughter passed away, I went back part-time. I have to stay busy and this helps me.
ReplyDeleteI heard they're so good because they put oats in them. They really are my favorite! I am so sorry for all of the loss you've had in a short time. That would be a lot for anyone! I don't blame you for going back to work part time; being busy is a great distractor. I feel the same way about working right now.
