algebra, pre-algebra, geometry, division and fractions

Do you know how long it's been since I first heard the term, expanded exponential notation?  It's been more than just a few years, I assure you.  After today's math lessons, I am now way more understanding of that than I was in high school.  Their math is DVD-guided and the teacher is awesome.  Witty, with a dry sense of humor, which is right up my alley.

Too bad I didn't have him as my teacher back then...my grade would've been much better than the just barely passing grade I always received.

Today was a day for math.  For all four of the boys.  We did other things, too, but we got caught up on math and tests.  Their math is awesome, I don't know if I've said on here before, but thanks to my sister-in-love Tracy, we use Math-U-See.  She recommended it.

Last year was a little rough for us in the math department.  As much as we loved the curriculum we used last year, the math was redundant.  Which can be good, but for us it was bad.

They needed a new and fun curriculum and they needed to not be taught by me.  I do understand math when it's explained well, I just don't recall it off the top of my head.  Apparently this curriculum is doing its job-the lowest grade on a test they've received so far this year is 90%.  Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.

So that's what we did today.  Fun, huh?  My niece has a lovely blog that you can see on my blog roll to your right that's called Sweet Potato Claire, and in her title it says, "The sometimes exciting and sometimes not so exciting life of...".  That's how I feel our life is.  Sometimes exciting, most often not.  Just normal, everyday stuff is what most our days consist of.  I will say that my boys have this cool tendency to make everything they do fun.  Such is true for our school day.

Happy hump day to you.  :)  Love to all.
