my 44th birthday- some things about me you may not have known

I was born to be a mom of boys. To this day I am drawn to boys and even the baby boy clothing in department stores. I love them so much and they make me feel like a queen all the time. Their dad brought them up right.

When I was a teenager when people would ask me what I wanted to be, I used to feel embarassed that all I wanted to do was to be a wife and a mom. The Lord has been sweet to allow me to do just that for the last twenty-one years. (Graham will be twenty-two in March.)

I love that they are protective and that they take care of me.

You've heard the statement, "The more the merrier"? I really do feel that way. The more mouths I can feed and fit into our home, the happier I am. Many times I've asked the Lord to multiply our food for us and would you believe that He has every time I've asked Him that?

Alex is my bonus son. He has been a part of our lives since he was three or four years old. Isn't he handsome? I am so proud of him.

I am so proud of my boys. I feel like they should still be this little, though.

They crack me up! Even last night when we took the picture of us on the square, they were hitting each other to make everyone laugh.

I love all of their friends like they're my own sons and I pray for them when I pray for my boys.

Sometimes good chocolate brings a tear to my eyes.

There are days when the only person I want to talk to is Jesus. Missy bought me a shirt that says that for my birthday and I can't wait to wear it.

Twinkling lights make my heart so happy. It's why I keep them out all year long. I am a firm believer that if something thrills you like twinkling lights do me, no matter what the trend is, you should put things you love inside your home.

I am a huge introvert, but I can fake being the opposite. I love staying home and could do just that every day of my life.

On the flip side of that, I love meeting new people and could carry on a conversation with a brick wall.

I love to cook, expecially for boys! I love it when their friends request to be here when I make a certain thing.

I am an organization freak. I have a love for all things like lists and I am an excellent manager of time.

On time for me is ten minutes early. I hate to rush and Drew and Noah are just like me.

I love to re-read and re-watch favorite books, movies and shows.

I love young adult fiction and movies.

I hate sports, but I pretend I like them when my sons tell me things they're excited about.

I love being the only girl in the house. Like I said earlier, this means they all treat me well and I rarely ever had to get onto the boys.

Quality time is my love language and I love spending that time with my family and friends while doing mundane things. Errands are always more fun with someone tagging along!

Well, I am about to wrap this up, but thank you for everyone who wished me a happy birthday yesterday! I had the perfect day. I spent time with Mom and received some very thoughtful cards and gifts. I love getting cards of any kind and I save them. Per my request, we ended the day with a yummy dinner of steaks and side items, then we went to the town square for a few pictures. Alex and Max were with us and Max brought me a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes!

I received some really thoughtful gifts and beautiful texts and messages from family and friends, but more than any gift could bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart, I am so thankful for the Lord and how He gives to me everything I could ever ask for or imagine. He is so sweet, so good all of the time and every second of every minute of my life. As much as I love my family and friends, the desire of my heart is that they would all know Jesus as their Lord and Savior so they can spend all of eternity with us in Heaven someday. One of my favorite Bible verses is Deuteronomy 6:5 and is what I pray over my family constantly and is represented by the heart tattoo I have on the inside of my wrist. Here it is:

Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your your strength.

It is not His desire that any should die (perish) without knowing Him as their Lord and Savior. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us that and my prayer for anyone I know, anyone who reads these words, is that I always point you to Jesus. If you're reading this, know that you are one I pray for often.

Thanks for reading! Love to all.

  5. I so enjoyed reading this post in learning more about you, Jen. You sound like a great wife and mom. I used imagine that I would have a house full of boys. I grew up with three brothers, so I couldn’t imagine having daughters… But here I am with my two oldest being girls, and the two youngest are boys. 😊

  6. Bri-

Thank you so much for that encouragment! I kind of grew up with my husband and kids because we were BABIES and got married at 19. We were 22, 23 and 26 by the time we had our four sons, so that's why I say that we grew up with them. Hopefully we haven't damaged them for life. Lol. I am the youngest of four girls! I don't know that I could have survived having girls of my own, I was terrible!
