the Wednesday hodgepodge

Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm linking up with Joyce today for my favorite post of the week. I'll jump right in!

1. On July 29th, 1957 The Tonite Show premiered with Jack Parr as its host. This marked the beginning of the modern day talk show. Do you watch daytime or late night talk shows today? Do you have any thoughts on the hubbub surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, or are you in the camp of 'who is Stephen Colbert'?

I don't really watch daytime TV anymore, but when I'm home and have the streaming apps to do so, I love to watch all the hours of The Today Show. I love the lighter, fluffier news at the end of it the most. It's such a luxurious feeling to be able to lounge around and do that kind of thing! It's the very best. I know who Stephen Colbert is, but I don't really care about late night shows.

2. What's the best part of your day? For sure, it's laying down at the end of each day. I love to talk on the phone or text while I'm in bed; other times I just scroll and watch IG reels or TikTok videos.

3. What's something your generation does that you actually dislike? I had to look up things that Gen X'ers do to figure out what annoys me, and when I started digging, I immediately had one pop up. It's how we use Facebook! I'm including myself in this one, because I've definitely been guilty of it, but why do we feel the need to share so much there? Or why do we go off on rants there; does that really ever help? Like I said, I'm including myself in this one, so don't think I'm talking about just one person.

4. When cooking, do you clean as you go, or all at once when you're finished? What's the last thing you cooked/baked in your kitchen? I definitely clean as I go! The last thing I made in the kitchen was when I made dinner a few weeks ago when my brother and nephew were here staying with me. That's shameful! I do have grand plans to bake sourdough bread when I get home from work today. I'm excited about that!

5. Sum up your July in ten words or less. It was fast, fun, and furious!

6. Insert your own random thought here. I'm adjusting well to working full time! I'm tired at night, but it's a good kind of tired. I'll talk more about this tomorrow or next week.

Thanks for reading my blog today, friends! Love to all.

  1. My fave (sarcasm) is when couple shares a Facebook account a la "Johnandjanedoe". I also love very private messages to one person posted on Facebook. So crazy!

    1. Oh my gosh, how annoying are those joint accounts! That made me laugh. It's such a conundrum, this age of social media. I love it and hate it all at once!

  4. I'm glad that your job is going well! Starting new tasks always seems daunting to me; I hope that only good things continue on the job front. You mentioned making bread- I need a sourdough starter to start making my own bread. I said I'd never do it but then I had some sourdough bread from the farm store. It tasted incredible and of course now I want to make my own! Have a great day!

    1. Thank you! I am the same way. You can order a starter pack online! You should check that out, and then just follow the instructions to rehydrate it when it arrives. It's so good!

  5. Facebook has changed so much in the last couple of years, although there have always been those weird couple accounts lol. I don't get that. I am not on FB as much anymore, but I do post my blog link there as I have a lot of friends who read it that way so it's easy. I feel like my feed now is all ads or reels of people I don't know. Take me back to people's food and vacation pics. Glad things are going well with the new job. Enjoy!

    1. It has! I feel the same about it being mostly ads and articles based on my algorithm. I don't love it, but give me the old any day!

  6. The end of your day sounds wonderful. I always scroll on Insta and TikTok when I am in bed.
I used to be guilty of sharing so much on FB, now I hardly bother with it and just share funny memes.
I am glad you are getting into the swing of working full time.

  7. I couldn't agree more about Facebook!! I have a cousin that puts a minute by minute status of her life on there and I just cringe! lol. The only reason I even post on FB is because I have family scattered throughout the US...so I normally just post pictures to keep everyone updated. Hope you have a great rest of the week!

    1. It's so bad! I always cringe as well over some of my friends. Like the checking in thing? It drives me NUTS! I sound so judgy. 🤣 I like it for staying in touch with people, so I'll always keep it for that reason.

  8. I agree about Facebook. It seems like no one I actually know posts anything there anymore, and I just see random posts and ads. Can't wait to hear more about your new job.

  10. We have the same favorite time of day. Lol! I hope you get the rest you need. Full time jobs aren't easy.

  11. Do not get me started on Facebook! I used to be a teacher, and one of my former students, who is grown up with a child of her own, is one of my friends on the platform, and her posts are too much sometimes. I feel so bad when I read some of them, but I don’t feel led to have a conversation about her oversharing habits. I just have to shake my head, say a prayer, and keep scrolling.

  12. I also had to look up what things my generation is known for or what the stereotypes are! I thought of something other than what I found when I searched but yeah, what are we doing on FB anyway? LOL It used to be so much fun and then it started getting really political and just an argument fest, and I keep thinking "y'know it costs nothing to just scroll by if you don't agree". I still use FB a lot but I don't say much any more. Hope your new job is going great and that you're having a great week!

  13. Too bad about Stephen Colbert, caught in between the political war between big media and the Trump administration. He is the latest casualty of Trump's assault on the First Amendment, Jon Stewart will be next...if prominent media personalities are being silenced, what hope is there for the rest of us?
