Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm here with Joyce again today for the weekly hodgepodge...this is a post that I dearly love; thank you, Joyce, for your inspiring and thought provoking questions each and every week! I'll jump right in.
1. Fall officially rolled into the northern hemisphere on Monday (9/22) of this week...what's your favorite thing about fall? I love, love, love the cooler mornings and evenings. I love when the leaves start to fall, although Kendra totally burst my bubble on Sunday night and told me that the leaves fall from the amount of sun exposure they've had, not because of the weather. I actually enjoy the longer evenings, too...at least, I used to. I think I remember loving them last year? Of course, I wasn't working full time last year, so maybe that will change; but then again, maybe not. And speaking of leaves falling, I love a yard full of them! I get sad when my yard gets raked; I always love the sound of leaves crunching under my feet when I walk.
I miss Dad's house!
2. What's one thing on your real or proverbial fall bucket list? I want to see the colors of fall! I'd love to do some baking. I want to do some fall festivals in my area! I'd like to have some friends over to my house for a night around the fire pit. I want to burn some more of my wedding dress! I'd like to do something fun with someone on Halloween this year since I'll be home (I was out of town last year on that night).
This picture makes me laugh; it was right before Trish tried to dance like Pamela Pumpkin on social media and did something to her knee that she still suffers from today.
3. Apples, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and cranberries are some of the top fall foods. Which one is your favorite, and how do you like it prepared? Any on the list you don't eat? Which one have you had most recently? Most recently I've had apples and sweet potatoes, but I like all of these that are listed. My favorite thing in the world is an oven baked sweet potato with butter, salt, and pepper.
4. "Fall is proof that change is beautiful" is a popular sentiment. Would you agree or no? Elaborate. I agree with this statement, but I'll add a caveat: even if this is true, it's still painful most of the time to go through such big changes. Ask me how I know! I don't like to harbor on the past for too long, because I could quickly get carried away with it, but even though I'm thankful for my life right now at this moment and what it looks like, there are some days that still just about knock me down. I don't know how long this will last, but I have to feel those things when the time comes and then try to move past it as quickly as possible.
5. Is there a spot near you where people go to see the leaves change colors? Will you try to leaf peep somewhere this fall? Lonely Planet lists the following ten places as the best for leaf peeping...of those listed, which would you most like to visit? I think there are some pretty places somewhat close by that would be pretty to leaf peep: anywhere along The Natchez Trace parkway, and any hills or mountains that you can get to quickly from me would also be nice. I do plan on doing some leaf peeping, especially on my upcoming sisters trip to Maine! We'll be there at peak leaf season, and I am beyond excited! I really want to visit Stowe, Vermont someday, but I'd also love to go to Zion National Park.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I love the musical artist Blessing Offor and listen to his playlist every morning when I wake up. One of my favorite songs by him is Brighter Days. Here's a video for you to enjoy!
I can't wait to read your answers to these prompts! Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!
Jenn xoxo
That's actually not true; trees respond to the cooler weather and waning light that is why they shed their leaves. Otherwise the leaves would freeze on the trees and cause all sorts of complications. "As day length shortens and temperatures cool, hormones within the plant are activated to begin the abscission process. Chlorophyll production stops and the pigment starts to degrade, often revealing showy reds and yellows that were masked by green. The vessels that carry water to the leaf and sugars to the rest of the plant are closed off, and a layer of cells, known as the abscission layer, starts to grow between the leaf stalk and the twig holding it."
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd read a long time ago that trees responded to the cooler weather...otherwise the leaves would start falling in the summer on the long days of sunshine. This is interesting!
DeleteYou featured some gorgeous photos and I like your fall list here; it's realistic and you can make it happen. I think you will have to really rely on your cozy lighting for fall hygge to enjoy the evenings. I think light entertaining is a good goal for you, too. And, the fall clothes are so fun to wear! Eek! I am looking for a Halloween graphic tee in more of a feminine cut and super soft material so let me know if you have any suggestions.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend! I love the one from Dad's house; the others were from Colorado. There's no place like Colorado in the fall! I don't think I'll mind the longer nights once the time changes again, and that'll be a great time to entertain. I'll keep my eye out for a tee! Have you tried Walmart online? Their graphic tees are like this: soft and feminine. They may have some good Halloween ones!
DeleteYou are making me want to bake a sweet potato now- yum! I agree- love all of those "fall foods." Halloween can be so much fun. I agree with you. I want to do something fun since it is on a Friday this year but will probably just hand out candy :)
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures! I had too much time this week to put my post together so it is picture-heavy, but no color-changing pics like you and Joyce had - I must not take too many. Now you know more what to expect in this season by yourself and your bucket list items seem perfect for you :). It's after 7 a.m. and the sun still isn't up - NOT my "time" of the year - ha! Glad that leaf-changing/dropping thing got cleared up by Joanne in your comments - that was interesting.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much to love at this time of year! I had no idea the leaves fell because of the sun exposure.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos!
It sounds like you have some great plans for the fall.
Maine is such a beautiful state and I'm excited for you to see it with your sisters. What fun! We'll be in town for Halloween this year too and there's usually a party somewhere here we'll be invited to. I need to think about costumes because I'm not good in that department last minute. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love fall! it's truly my favorite season!!!! Jenn, one of the things I love about your blog is the music you share! My spotify lists thank you!!!! there's always a new to me song I haven't yet loved! Fall makes my heart so happy-the colors, the smells, the coziness and the yummy fall foods! Maine and Vermont are on my bucket list to see one day & in the fall for sure! I have a trip coming up in a few weeks to Franklin, TN and I'm very excited!
