Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm here with Joyce again today for the weekly hodgepodge...this is a post that I dearly love; thank you, Joyce, for your inspiring and thought provoking questions each and every week! I'll jump right in!
1. Do you like your name? Are you named after someone? If you have children, how did you choose their names? I'll be honest, I've never loved the name Jennifer. I never hated it, though...until two years ago, and I decided to rename myself Jenn. I've always preferred that anyway, so it's a win/win situation. I have always loved my middle name of Mellyn...it's very Southern, even very Steel Magnolias! My sons are all named after grandparents of some sort...the names (Graham) Douglas, (Andrew/Drew) Myles, (Jonah) Raymon, and (Noah) Lloyd are all from their two sets of grandparents.
2. A piece of red velvet cake, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a slice of blueberry pie? You can only have one...which will you choose? If you could pick any red, white, or blue dessert other than those listed here, what would you choose? Of the choices listed, I would choose red velvet cake. If I could pick any other dessert, I would pick a slice of cheesecake with strawberries on top.
3. What's a job you'd like to try just for one day? This one is a hard one for me to answer, for some reason. Maybe a labor and delivery nurse? It's the only thing that sticks out to me, because I considered going back to school for a stint in my twenties to pursue a career as that. I think it would be miraculous to witness a child being born, and I think I would be a really kind and comforting nurse.
4. Any patriotic decor in your home currently or coming up this summer? I'm not really big on patriotic decorations, honestly. I always keep an American flag flying in my front yard.
5. It's the end of May, so let's exercise our brains. Sum up your month with an acrostic using the word "May". We can do it!
Many celebrations for the end of an amazing year
All the emotions are ones I experienced this month as I walked through the last thirty days
Yippee to the (un)official start of summer!
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I can't believe I forgot to share this before today, but my friend has been giving me books to read as she finishes them...I was looking at one last week and came across this on the first page! A book that comes with its own playlist? Yes, please! I think every author should do this! Now the series that she's given me aren't books that I think I'll love, but how cool, right?
Thanks for reading my blog today, friends! I'll see you back here tomorrow with my summer bucket lists! Love to all.
Jenn

I think you would have been a very kind nurse... I, however, would probably pass out as most bodily fluids make me lightheaded or just downright nauseous. My doctor laughed at me because she offered to set up a mirror so I could watch and I was like "you better not... in fact make sure you clean that baby up real well before you put him or her on my chest." She thought that was a riot but I was so grossed out by the idea of a slimy baby I was expected to hold. And now I'm trying to wrack my brain thinking of other books for you as I've read several with their own playlists! I'm going to come up with a list for you.
ReplyDeleteGirl, this made me laugh out loud! I totally get that feeling of being grossed out over a slimy baby, but by the time mine were born, that never occurred to me. That would be amazing if you could give me a list of books that have their own playlists! Thank you!
DeleteI like your middle name! I've not heard of that name before. I like all of your boys' names as well. I'm so glad people are labor and delivery nurses. It sounds horrifying to me to see... things I have no desire to see (seeing a baby- yes, that sounds nice. Seeing from where a baby arrives, not so much!!). Ok the playlist and a book. I'm a little confuzzled. Are you supposed to listen to these songs as you read the book? Or did these songs inspire the author somehow?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love their names, too. The playlist is just something you could listen to for fun, but I would imagine the author was inspired by what she was writing to come up with the songs...or maybe it was vice versa. As a writer, I often think in terms of music; when I was helping writing Bible studies for my church, I always included a song list with my portion. We would later use those songs for the worship before we started Bible study.
DeleteI like when a book comes with recipes, too!
ReplyDeleteYou had your work cut out for you with coming up with 8 names. I like all of them and the middle names!
My niece is a labor and delivery nurse. I always want to hear stories. She has only been doing it for a couple of years.
I like that, too! Thanks for the love on their names. Coming up with eight was a lot. Ha! I would love to hear her stories! What a beautiful and rewarding career.
DeleteSo with you on the playlists accompanying books! Genius! Love the pic of you and your boys and how special to named after their grandparents
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I love and hate that picture; it was taken after my dad's funeral, and everyone was gone except for their dad, so he was the one behind the phone. I'm rolling my eyes. Thanks for the name love! I always liked that idea as well.
DeleteJennifer is a nice name but I think Jenn suits you better. I love that photo of you and your boys!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it would be something to see a child being born.
That is cool that the book has a playlist. I have never seen that before.
Thank you! I have a love/hate relationship with the picture since it was taken after my dad's funeral. I think back on that day and get really sad because of all that was going on in my life. Isn't that cool about the book having a playlist? I love things like that!
DeleteYou needed a lot of boy names. We struggled more with the boy names, but had girls so it all worked out. One of my daughter's best friends is an OB and she's perfect for the job. I started out in nursing but switched my major sophomore year to Speech Pathology. I really didn't know much about that job until I got to uni but I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI did need a lot of boy names! It was the opposite for me...a girl name could never be agreed upon, but it all worked out. Did you ever work in your field? I didn't know this about you!
