a day in my joyful life

Happy Thursday, friends! I'm linking up with Joyce again today for a day in the life link party. This is such a nostalgic type of post that is reminiscent of the early days of blogging. I miss those days sometimes, so this is such a fun throwback to that simpler time of life. For my post, I chose last Tuesday, June 9. I don't know why I picked this day, maybe because it was busier than normal? Anyway, I forgot to take pictures for a lot of the day, which is how it always goes for me. I'll jump in!

I woke up around six that morning, and enjoyed a cup of coffee while I sat down to read blogs.

Coffee tastes the best when it's the first cup of the day! This is also my favorite morning activity: reading blogs while drinking coffee and listening to soft music in the background.

I also love to browse on Instagram for a few minutes during this time after I've read blogs. I almost always find something to save to my phone to share for Friday Favorites.

I got busy pretty quickly on this day, because that night it was my turn to host Bunco. I had a corn salad to make, and two key lime pies as well. I started a list for my day, because I have to do that for days when I have a lot to remember. Are you like that? I was hosting at my friend Karen's house that night; not only did I have to prepare the food, I had to remember what all to take with me from the food to the utensils, drinks and cups. It was a lot, so you see my need for a list. I only forgot one thing later that afternoon, and it wasn't a big deal! I forgot the whipped cream for the key lime pies, but Karen had some at her house, thankfully.

This filling was amazing; I ended up having it for breakfast! Ha...it was just this one spoonful, but still. Yummy! The last time I had key lime pie for breakfast was last year when Marilyn and I were at the beach together. We finished off a pie in three days!

I took this and sent it to Chris, because he said I'd been slacking in sending him good morning pictures since I haven't been working all summer. This made me laugh when he said that, but I also love that he wants to see my face often.

In between all of this, and on a serious note, my Bunco ladies and I were texting all morning about a family in our church whose husband/father passed away very tragically. This has been a shock to all of us, and to our community. I didn't know him personally, but I know his wife and the youngest daughter. She was at the school I work at when I was there three years ago; the entire family is precious, and my heart has ached for them since the day we learned of this. I honestly cannot imagine that type of pain, though...they're never far from my thoughts and prayers.

After I cleaned up from my morning of cooking/preparing, I went upstairs to get dressed for my day.

I met my co-workers for lunch and margaritas! This wasn't all of us, but the few of us who could make it that day. We call ourselves The Lunch Bunch; I can't believe I barely knew these ladies a year ago. Today, as I write this, we are texting nonstop! I love them all so much; this was a fun day of reconnecting!

I couldn't stay there too long; my sister was coming to my house to help me get ready for Bunco that night. Once she got here, we worked on sorting, labeling, and wrapping all of the gifts I had to take. It's a lot! Everyone wins a prize each month at Bunco, so this is what I had gone shopping for the week prior to this with my friend Teresa. She was so sweet to help me with all of this! And so was Trish; she excels at the gift of organizing and wrapping things to make them look cute. She honestly reminds me of Ina Garten or Martha Stewart; she can decorate, she can cook, she does it all! All of my sisters are this way, actually.

I had about an hour before I had to leave for Bunco after all of this. Marilyn came over to my house to ride with me, then we left to pick up Teresa, who lives a few streets away; we made the thirty minute drive out to where Karen lives in Mississippi, set it all up, and stood and chatted while the other ladies arrived.

Here was the food spread! We had chicken tenders from Slim Chickens, pimento cheese and crackers, sourdough bread and butter, and corn salad with crushed chili cheese Fritos to garnish with. Key lime pie was our dessert! Everyone loved the food, and we had fun eating and then playing for a couple of hours. All the gifts were passed out, dessert was consumed, then it was time to load it all up again and come home. I had to make a stop for gas first, then we started the drive home. I basically got here and went straight to bed, because I had to be at work by eight the next morning!

This was a busier than normal day, but it was a fun one, for sure. I hope you enjoyed reading about it all! I can't wait to read your posts. I'm leaving town today for the weekend, so I might be here on Monday to recap the weekend, but I might not...it will depend on when I get home and how I feel when I arrive. Either way, I hope you have a great weekend, friends! Love to all.

  1. What a fabulous summer day! How lovely that you have your lunch bunch...something to look forward to and fun with friends. You have to taste test any dessert you make, right? I love key lime pie! I've never played Bunco, but I know a few people who are in groups. sounds fun! I hope you're having a great week.

    1. It was a perfect summer day! I love these friends from work; we try to do things often to stay connected while we're not seeing each other everyday. They make work more fun, though! I agree with tasting dessert, so it made total sense to have for breakfast. Ha! Thanks, friend, I hope you're enjoying your week as well!
