random Wednesday things

 

Happy Wednesday, friends! I am living my best life right now. I've eaten dinner, cleaned the kitchen, and am sitting watching the cutest Hallmark movie from this weekend in my favorite cozy clothes: fleece pajama pants and my Hallmark Christmas movie sweatshirt. Did I mention that I'm home alone in a quiet house? If you don't know this about me, know that this little fact about me means that I am in Heaven! I love being alone; it's how I recharge my batteries. (The adorable movie I'm watching is Field Day that aired last weekend on the Hallmark Channel.) 

And yes, I love Christmas Hallmark movies this much, so much so that my best friend's husband bought Missy and me matching sweatshirts that say that.

I hope you've been having a good week! I thought I'd share some random things in no particular order on this glorious day. 

I don't talk about our sons all that much here these days, because I really do try to respect their private and adult lives. For that reason, I won't mention specifics, but my heart nearly explodes anytime one of them talks to me for advice. One son in particular called me on his way home yesterday and we talked for thirty minutes about a difficult circumstance he's walking through right now. On one hand, I love that he talks to me about things like this, but I hate to see him suffer and struggle. When we hung up, I made him dinner as he finished driving home, and I started praying for him. As much as I want to give him advice and wise counsel, I want God's will for his life most. That's what my prayer was, because it was about a girl. It's hard seeing their growing pains as adults! 

Does anyone love bookshelves as much as me? One of my favorite things to do is to rearrange everything on top of and inside of these shelves. I love changing up everything for the seasons, and this little area gets the same treatment. Also, a sidenote: see the globe on top of the shelf? For a while last spring, I had a little plant stand sitting in the living room that I moved this globe to the top of. One day the dogs were playing, and one of them knocked the stand over. The globe broke, but Todd made a temporary repair on it for the time being. 

I'll go ahead and confess that he told me I should move the stand, because he knew something like that would happen with the pups that we have in the house. I really hate it when he's right.

As far as the books on the bookshelf, did you know that I recently got rid of the majority of my books? I kept only the books by my favorite authors, and the ones I like to read again every so often. Do you read books for a second time? Why or why not? I consider some books to be "comfort books", which is why I like to read them again sometimes. 

I don't know if you know this about me, but I'm about to let you in on one of my toxic traits. (Yes, I have more than one.) This little tidbit about me drives my husband bonkers! It's the fact that I hide things. I like for things to be put away, so this means I often find places for things...and then I forget where I put them. 🤣 Have you ever lived with people who don't mind clutter? I hate it, which is why I do this. I am also always putting things in front of outlets to conceal them, because they stick out like sore thumbs. Todd asked me recently what the problem is with letting an outlet remain uncovered. At this point, my answer is that I like to do things that bug him! 

We're so mature. Are you like this in your marriage? 

The things that I leave sitting out are things that I use pretty often. I keep utensils in their drawer, but I keep a box on the counter by the door for mail that comes in each day. 

I also constantly rearrange things to suit my decor, like this little area in our kitchen where the lamp sits. I'll change it again when I decorate for Christmas. 

I recently stumbled upon this silver platter that a friend gave to me. She was getting rid of a bunch of these types of things and she asked me to try to sell them for her. I did sell some of the pieces, but I kept several of them as well. I love this one, because it's so big! The cool thing is that when I use it to serve meats off the grill, it heats up and keeps the meat warm. I don't use it that often, but I like it propped up in front of the tray behind it.

While I don't mind things on the countertops that aren't in the way of me prepping food, I don't like for things to be sitting on the counter tops. If I had all the money in the world, I would love to redo our kitchen. I'd pick new kitchen cabinets and new countertops that were white. While I'm on that subject, I'd probably have the entire house repainted on the interior. Do you do this? Dream up future projects? It's fun to do, but I have to be careful lest I become discontent. I don't want to be like that! I try to be content at all times, which is why I love moving things around and repurposing them.
