a cozy Saturday

Happy Saturday, friends, and welcome to a bonus blog post this week! I anticipate a lot of extra blog posts over the course of the next few days/week. I anticipate being bored at home, and when I'm bored, I like to do something constructive. Insert me writing here a lot here. Today I thought I'd share how I like to be cozy when I'm stuck at home from weather or sickness, and then I'm going to ask you a question at the end, so stay tuned.

This is what I woke up to this morning! As I write this post, it's sleeting. For the next twenty four hours, it's supposed to be a combination of a wintry mix and snow. It's not getting above freezing until after next Friday. Yikes! I might be stuck here all week, friends. I was cold when I woke up; I made coffee, let the dogs out and fed them, then came inside to fix my coffee how I like it, then came into the living room to sit down to watch a movie. Jonah made a fire last night at nine o'clock; when I sat down this morning at 6:30, I saw a spark that was glowing. I added a new log to it, and this is my current view.

It's a great fire, right? This is the first thing I love to do while I'm stuck at home.

I also have a thing for having candles lit when I'm at home for long periods of time, so I lit the candle on my coffee table and sat down to watch a new show on Netflix.

That segues perfectly into my next thing: I love to watch movies or binge watch an entire season of a show (or even a whole show). I went to dinner with a couple of friends last night before the Snowpocalypse started, and one of them mention the show His & Hers on Netflix. Have you watched it yet? I started it this morning. It's a limited series, so there's just one season with seven or eight episodes.

Another thing I love to do is to drink something warm.

I usually only drink one cup of coffee in the mornings, but I'll probably drink a second one today. This is my favorite mug to drink it in; it's the Swig brand, and I even use the lid when it's cold outside so it'll stay warm.

I like to read when I'm stuck at home, and I hope to read a lot today. I'm working on a Mel Robbins book, but I have lots of things to read on my Kindle.

I'll talk on the phone a lot; it's not that it's something I love to do, but I do it a lot. I'll talk to Chris, Mom, Marilyn, and my sisters. I'm sure I'll call my sons and check on them at some point as well.

I like to eat soup; it's extra cozy when it's cold outside! I'll have taco soup for dinner.

I'll take a shower at some point and put on leggings with my hoodie instead of the fleece pajama pants I'm in at the moment. I'll probably wash my hair at the same time, since I'm due for that.

I'll keep this lovely fire going all day; Jonah will probably help me with this at some point while he's here. I know he will be in and out; something I love about him is that because he has a big truck and is confident about driving in the snow/ice, he loves to ride around to see if people need help. If he sees someone stuck, he will offer to help get them out. He is prepared for this in his truck; he has tow straps, winch cables (I think I'm saying that right?), and other things to be prepared for in case he gets stranded.

Here's my question to you: what do you do to stay cozy when you're stuck at home? What's the weather like for you today? I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for reading my blog today, friends. Love to all!

Jenn

  1. Last weekend it was very rainy and cold (Well, "Charleston cold" so like 45) and I had everything I needed: Cat, blanket, Kindle. I (and the cat) enjoyed the day very much!

    1. I love that you included your cat in this! Those are all great ways to stay warm and cozy. Thanks for stopping by to comment, Anita!

  2. Brrr...it looks cold. I looked at Nashville weather and they have lows this week of 4 degrees. I'm sure Memphis is similar! It looks like you are staying cozy and warm. I like reading, drinking a coffee or tea and having a candle burning. Throw blankets are a must too. I tried His and Hers, but only got a few episodes in. Stay warm!

    1. It is SO cold! Nashville may be a little cooler since they have more hills than we do near Memphis. Throw blankets are a must! I forgot to mention that one. Thanks, friend! You do the same!

  3. That is so kind of Jonah to help others in need! It looks like Waco will get significant ice tonight which concerns me about power outages. Our pups did not know what to make of the crunchy grass this morning. Meanwhile I have my Kindle charged and will enjoy a warm, cozy home.

    1. Thank you! I think so too. I'm a teensy bit concerned as well over the power outages as well, and I did some things today to prepare for the just in case scenario. I need to charge my Kindle! Thank you for the reminder.

  4. I’m up north so the storm will be quicker to clean and resume day to day activities. I love that your son goes out to actively help those in need. You raised him well. Sunday snow (12-16”) will mean reading, tv … intermingled with shoveling. Of course our snow blower isn’t working when it’s needed.

    1. I'm jealous that you guys can resume normalcy quicker than we can in the South; we are just not prepared for this kind of weather and can barely handle when it comes our way. Thank you for the kind words about my son!

  5. Yay for the bonus blog post! I hope you are staying safe and warm with the storm. How wonderful to have the fire burning and a candle, it looks so cosy! It sounds like you have such a lovely day planned. That is so kind of Jonah to drive around to see if people needs help.
I do almost the same as you! Staying warm with hot drinks and soup, watching too much TV and wearing comfy clothes.

    1. Thanks, friend! I'm staying warm and cozy for now, albeit also going a little stir crazy. I think it's nice of him, too! Yes to comfy clothes and comfort food/drinks. I'll be having a margarita with my dinner tonight!

  6. Our air temperatures dropped to -19 yesterday and the wind chill was -49 so we were definitely in hibernation mode! It's given us permission to relax and retreat which has felt quite lovely... at least for 24 hours or so! Your fire looks so inviting and cozy! Stay warm!

    1. Yikes! I cannot even fathom how cold that must feel. Sometimes we need a forced rest, so I like what you said about how it's given permission for you both to relax. Thanks, friend! You do the same.

  7. It's a good idea to take a shower, especially if the pipes freeze and the only option is a sponge bath with a bucket.

    1. I didn't even think about that, but you're absolutely right. I was just doing it out of boredom or necessity, like when I washed my hair. I'll do the same today!

  8. I appreciate the premise of _The Let Them_ theory, but I don't think I need a whole book on it; it’s essentially the “Serenity Prayer,” which is 1 sentence talking to HaShem. A great sentence! But I'm not sure what a full book adds, but ok. Maybe I will check it out!

It’s also very snowy and very cold here in NYC; i’m grateful for my radiator lol. I’m envious of that beautiful, cozy fireplace!! I also light candles this time of year.

I do have a book recommendation because I’ve been reading quite a bit lately: _The Friend_ by Sigrid Nunez. I think I’m late to the game on this one, but as a single lady and a dog lover, i really appreciated it;. They made it into a movie with Naomi Watts, whose performances I love, so that was also a treat.

Oh PS Margaret Atwood’s memoir is a complete delight.

    Enjoy your day!

    1. Yes! I agree about the Let Them theory. I would say a radiator is a great thing to be thankful for! Thanks for the fireplace love, friend! It's a favorite part of my home. Tis the season to read a lot!

  10. I love our fireplace, but it's not wood-burning. I grew up with those and had them in our first two houses - I'm happy to flip a switch now! I love my heated throw blanket and a good book or movie to watch. Marilyn said "work puzzles" and I agree - with a good book or podcast on! Since it doesn't look like we'll be snowed or iced in this week I don't need to think about this right now. The weekend was quiet in anticipation of severe weather so now it's time to return to normally scheduled programming I guess.

    1. I love any fireplace! It's wonderful to be "snowed in" for a few days, but I am ready to be back to normal.
