Happy Wednesday, friends! I'm here with Joyce again today for the weekly hodgepodge...this is a post that I dearly love; thank you, Joyce, for your inspiring and thought provoking questions each and every week! I'll jump right in!
1. June 17, 1994 was the day of the infamous O.J. Simpson car chase. What were you doing in 1994? I'm guessing someone will say they weren't born yet, but that's part of the fun of the Hodgepodge. Lots of generations are represented here. At this exact time thirty-two years ago, I was living my best life as a nanny! I worked with my friend Shawna; she was also a nanny, and she got me a job with her family's best friend doing the same. I distinctly remember this as the summer I had a crush on several boys at once, and one night, I had two dates to a sporting event. This wasn't anything unusual! 🤣 That's really all I remember; I made good money, and I had fun with my friends. Life was carefree!
2. What's your favorite summer salad that isn't the traditional green tossed salad? Do you like fresh fruit in a salad (other than in a fruit salad, of course)? I don't know that it's a summer salad, per se, but one of my favorite salads is the oriental variety. It has shredded lettuce and red cabbage, wonton noodles, mandarin oranges, sesame seeds, and maybe some chicken for protein. The dressing is a vinaigrette type. It's delicious! I do also love the salads from Chick Fil A with fruit in them; there used to a market salad that I would get on occasion!
But we all know my favorite salad is one that I make at Salad Station!
3. Is chivalry dead? Should it be? No, and no way! I think men should be gentlemanly. I love it when Chris puts me on the inside of the sidewalk we're walking on.
4. Would you rather spend a week of your summer vacation in Hawaii or Alaska? Have you ever been to either? Are they two places you would really like to see? How do you feel about Hawaiian pizza, also known as pineapple on pizza? Have you ever eaten baked Alaska? I would rather spend a week of summer vacation in Alaska; I've never been there, but I would love to visit someday. I loved Hawaii and would like to go back there as well sometime! I don't order pizza with pineapple, but if that is what is offered to me, then I would gladly partake. It's been a long time, but they used to offer this on the last night of a cruise; the last time I had this would have been when I was a young girl.
5. World Cup play is happening now...are you interested? Watching any matches? Did you or your children play soccer/futbol? There are eleven cities hosting matches: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City with the stadium in New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle. There are also three cities in Mexico: Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey, and two in Canada: Toronto and Vancouver. You get free tickets to one of these matches; what city would you choose and why? I haven't really been keeping up with it, though I did know that it was going on. I never played soccer, but all of my sons did! It was never my favorite. But now that I've watched Ted Lasso? I might take more of an interest. Of these cities offered, I would choose Boston. I picked this one because I've never been there to stay for a length of time; I've traveled through it several times, though...but one of these days, I will vacation there.

Agree with your answer to question to 3- long live chivalry and chivalrous men!! The salad you mentioned sounds good! I make a similar sounding one except instead of wanton noodles I use broken up ramen noodles.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Your version sounds yummy, too!
DeleteI remember having baked Alaska on our honeymoon cruise. It was quite the production. I wouldn't be opposed to going back to Hawaii but since I've been there Alaska would be the one I'd pick. I've heard the wildlife and scenery is amazing. You couldn't pay me to visit any one of those cities during the actual world cup time as I am not a fan of crowds or cities usually either.
ReplyDeleteI remember how big of an ordeal it was, too! I'm with you on not going to a large city during the World Cup!
DeleteI hate when people say they have something to tell me and then make me wait! Exactly!
ReplyDeleteI would love that salad as long as there were no nuts. I love Asian flavors. I haven't made anything in a long time of that flavor.
I love craisins and goat cheese in a salad. I forgot to say that! I also love pumpkin seeds!
I forgot to say that I can't believe you were a "playa" - player! That you had multiple guys on the bench waiting for you.
DeleteI hate that, too! The craisins sound good in a salad, too! I was a playa...that made me laugh so hard.
DeleteI'm not a fan of someone saying they need to tell me something then making me wait for what is often no big deal. It feels like game playing. I haven't made that Asian salad in a long time, but it would make a nice summer entree with grilled chicken added.
ReplyDeleteI agree! It does feel like a mental game, and I don't like that.
DeleteI would welcome you with open arms to Boston :) That meme too? Dead on- ha ha!!
ReplyDeleteI know you would! Isn't that great?!
DeleteI am loving reading about what people were doing in 1994. It seems we were all living our best lives.
ReplyDeleteThat oriental salad sounds so good.
That is so true! If someone needs to talk to me I don't want to be hanging around waiting to know why.
Yes! I love that too. I agree...let's get it over with as soon as possible, please!
DeleteI was a nanny as well in my life and enjoyed it very much but not during the OJ thing.Enjoyed your answers.
ReplyDeleteI love that you were a nanny as well! Thanks for that!
DeleteI picked Boston too!
ReplyDeleteYes! I love that!
DeleteOh it sounds like we need a blog trip to Boston!
ReplyDeleteIt would be so much fun!
DeleteCount me in, I want to go to Boston as well.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Boston!
