Dear friends,
Thank you for reaching out to me lately as many of you have; thank you for always encouraging and supporting me. I'm devastated to tell you that my beloved Chris ran into the arms of Jesus on Friday night. We had thought he was getting better, but over the course of a couple of nights, he took a turn for the worse. His body couldn't handle the septic shock and double pneumonia, young as he was. He honestly shouldn't have died because of his age, his healthy lifestyle, and because he was in the ICU; but even if this shouldn't have happened, I have to remind myself that God numbers our days. He knew that Chris would be born at a certain time, and that he would die at a certain time. I believe that God knew that Chris had fulfilled his purpose here on earth, and then He called him home.
I'm forever changed by this man. Through him, my damaged heart healed. Through him, my sons found refuge in having someone to talk to for wise advice, support, and encouragement. Through him, I found out for the first time what it is like to be truly loved the right way by a man. I'm grateful for the time I had with him, and I will miss him until my dying breath.
I don't really understand why things like this happen, and that's okay. I have questions that I keep asking God, but I know that He loves me. He knows what heartache feels like and He records the tears I cry and treasures them. It's with Him that I know beyond a shadow of doubt that I will make it through this. I have Him by my side, and I have the love and strength of an army of people here with me.
My sons have barely left my side. My sister Lisa flew in on a redeye flight Friday night/Saturday morning and slept in the Atlanta airport as she waited to come home to me. Trish has been here to do all the practical things that need doing, and I've FaceTimed Debi a few times since she can't be here. My Missy has been with me a lot, as well as Marilyn and my co-workers. It's been nonstop traffic at my house, and I'm grateful. I've also had to ask people to leave so that I could go to bed or take a nap. It's been so much, but again...the body of Christ in the form of the church is incredible, and I am surrounded.
I've received cards, food for the army of people that are here with me, flowers, Door Dash gift cards...and many words of love. Many, many prayers have been spoken over us all as we grieve. In the midst of my grief, I'm planning his funeral. Chris' dad is alive, but his mental wellbeing isn't in the best state. He's thrown out some opinions, but it's me and Lisa that have planned the funeral and fought the life insurance company to ensure it would be able to be held on Friday of this week. I've also had to deal with his truck and camper that were at my house, so we've been all over the city to see where we had to go to turn things back into the bank.. And his dogs are still at my house, y'all. I've decided to keep our little Reese, but I cannot keep his other two. Please pray that these dogs are rehomed to someone who will love them as much as Chris did. It tears me up to have to do that, but I simply cannot keep them. It's too much.
I just wanted to write here for a bit and say hello and tell you what was going on. Please keep us all in your prayers as we walk toward Friday and his funeral. I anticipate the weekend being hard on me when the dust settles, so to speak, and it's after that final piece of closure, so I'll need some plans. I plan on going back to work on Monday, though, and I cannot wait. I need to be back there as soon as possible. I need to be with all of my people and I hope to stay busy.
Life will look different for me in the coming days and I will have to adjust to a new normal again, but I'm okay with that. I have a plan in place and I have people that I will lean on; I'm also planning on returning to my old church, as they are the ones that are my family right now and I need them the most. And honestly, I don't think I can go back to the new one we'd been going to without Chris, because we loved it there so much. I need familiar right now, and my friends at CFBC are the ones that feel like that. I'm so grateful to have this "problem", though...how amazing is the body of Christ?
I may be back here on Monday just to restart my new normal again...I can't say that with certainty, but being here is like therapy for me, and so is writing. Thank you for reading my words and encouraging me. Thanks for cheering me in on my journey with Chris this last year; it was unforgettable. I know I'll have joy once again soon...I know he would have wanted me to carry on with my life.
Love to all.
Jen ❤️

Sending prayers from Illinois for all who knew and loved him
ReplyDeleteJenn I just really love and admire the way you are pointing others to Jesus in the midst of your pain. He alone can quench our tears and heal our broken hearts. I am praying for you daily. If you want a trip to the lake sometime in the future for a change of scenery or just to get away please reach out. My door is open. The church gets a bad rap so often and it's heartwarming to hear all the ways people are ministering to you. I think getting back to work and routine will help a lot. Thinking of you as you head into the weekend and the funeral and all that you need to manage. xo
ReplyDeleteJen, I’m a long time reader, first time commenter as others above have shared. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m a follower of Christ as well but I also believe it’s ok to think this is so unfair and to question why this happened. You are very strong but you also have the right to be angry about this as well. It’s ok to have all of the feelings. It’s absolutely devastating and heartbreaking for you both. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteJen, I don't know you but I can't stop thinking about you so I just keep praying for you! Know that I will continue to do so in the days and weeks and months ahead. You are really such a special woman. I love that in the midst of your deep sorrow, you continue to point others toward the only one who can truly heal!
ReplyDeleteI am so shocked and devastated for your loss. I am so sorry. Chris seemed like such a wonderful man and we could all see how happy he made you. Thinking of you and sending lots of love.

ReplyDeleteI do not know you but read your blog daily. I am so very sorry for your loss. It seems like you really hit the jackpot with Chris. You could tell in your blogs that you two were meant to be. I pray that you can keep all the good memories in your heart. Thinking of you during this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteJen, I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how you're handling all of this. O am so happy you have a strong faith and village to lean on. I have loved following along with yours and Chris' love story this past year. Take comfort in your shared memories and that he passed from this life knowing he was valued and loved by you. That is an amazing gift. Continued prayers for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI have been praying for you continuously since I saw your IG post this past weekend. I am gutted to know that you are bearing way more than your fair share of grief and sorrow. I am so thankful (and impressed!) for your faith and so grateful that you have an army of people surrounding you and holding you up, as Moses' buddies held his arms up when he was far too tired to do it himself. Praying continuously for you!
ReplyDeleteJen, I was so shocked and hurt for you when I read your post today. I cannot even begin to imagine all that you are going through. I’m so glad you have your strong faith, your children, and such an amazing village of friends surrounding you. I’ve been a faithful reader of your blog for a long time, and you have always exuded such joy and authenticity, even when life has been incredibly difficult. I’m continually inspired by what you share. I will be keeping you in my prayers—that you feel God’s presence like you’ve never felt it before, that He gives you strength for each day, and that you feel His comfort in the midst of this unimaginable loss. I am so, so sorry this is your journey. Like you, I trust God for His best for you, and I know He hurts with you through every tear. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry, and shocked. Praying for you.

ReplyDeleteOh Jen! My heart has been heavy since I first heard rumblings this past weekend of sorrow that may have come your way. Little did I know the depth of grief you faced. Still, through it all, you shine your light on God and His ways. I truly believe that He is holding you and all those who loved Chris in the palm of His hand and that He is walking right by your side during this difficult and unexpected time. I am so grateful that you are surrounded by so much love and I pray that you continue to feel Chris's presence. As always, I am sure he is proud of you. Your time together on earth was brief but what a blessing that you indeed found each other and enriched each other's life in so many ways. Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of so many (inclding me) now and in the days to come.
ReplyDeleteI love you my sweet friend! I’ll always be here for you ❤️
ReplyDeleteI just love to hear how much love and support you have been surrounded by! You will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers all weekend (and far beyond too, of course).
ReplyDeleteMy heart is just broken for you. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. How lucky you are to be surrounded by such a great support system during this extremely difficult time ❤️
ReplyDeleteJenn, as always, you have spoken so beautifully and gracefully from your heart. We love you and ache for you.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Chris. My prayers are with you.
ReplyDeleteYour writing is always so beautiful even in the midst of the worst heartbreak. I am praying for you and sending love from afar. We are here for you always XOXO
ReplyDeleteOh Jenn, what shall I say? I am lost for words about your unexpected and tragic loss. I am so, so sorry. During the past year, I have followed along the story about you and Chris. Even though I have never met either of you, I could tell by your facial expressions that things were going well and that you had found each other as a couple. The memories you have made, and the experiences that you have gained will be forever yours. I hope that they will be able to carry you through the ups and downs of the next few months. So will your relationship with God and your vast circle of friends and family. Sending encouragement and healing thoughts across the Atlantic Ocean.
ReplyDeleteI am happy that you will be able to keep little Reese. Prayers for the other two that they find a good loving home. We adopted one of our dogs after his former owner passed far too soon. Praying that someone kind out there might be looking to adopt a pet just at this very moment.
DeleteI am so sooooo sorry to hear this. Praying for you and family.

I was so sad to read this post and found it upsetting that Chris had passed away.I fell like you had found such a nice man who loved spending time with you and appeared to be a fun person.I loved seeing all the pictures of the two of your. I know you you loved him deeply and your heartache will heal. You are right to believe that he came into your life at the time he did to help you heal from all the change. Now the journey forward is upon you once more and in time our heartache will start to heal. I like to think that the stars are little windows from heaven and that our loved one is now one of those stars and at night he will be with you through his portal above. There will be a comfort looking up at those stars for all eternity. Janet
