Wednesday in the Word of God

Happy Wednesday, friends.

I thought I'd share about why I don't believe in coincidence and why it's important to follow through with a thought or an urge or instinct. Yesterday as I was writing out the verses in the Scripture writing plan I'm doing for this month, as I was writing them and saying them in my mind as I wrote, a friend's name popped into my mind. I immediately stopped and started praying for her, because she is scheduled to have surgery today. This happens to me pretty frequently, but I don't always share with the people I pray for—yesterday I felt led to share with her, though.

I told her how I was praying for the Lord to bring her peace and that I knew how she felt with the day before surgery being a day of prep work to get to the next day and how that I sometimes felt like the prep day was worse than the other days following surgery. She immediately responded back to me with a statement that gave me chills—that she had just been praying for the Lord to bring her peace over tomorrow, because she is dreading what she knows is coming.

Isn't that amazing?! I love it when God moves on me to do something like that. You should know me well enough by now to know that I don't say any of this to boast about myself. I share this to encourage you to look for those little moments in life to do something as simple as praying for someone and if you feel led to share that with them, then by all means, let them know. I consider this to be one small example of being led by the Holy Spirit. I love what this verse below says—

Since we live by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit.

(Galatians 5:25)

This sometimes feels like a thought, like when you start thinking of someone or it could feel like an urge to do something for someone, whether it is praying for them or paying for someone's coffee behind you in the drive through. The Lord is so faithful to give us opportunities to minister to those around us, but in order to see them, we must be looking for them. This involves slowing down and paying attention to the moments we have in life.

I pray almost everyday for the Lord to use me in some way that day and He always answers that prayer. I don't pray that to make myself feel good or important—I pray that so that it will point other people to Him, especially those who don't know Jesus. That's my goal, to share Him with everyone I come across, whether a friend or a stranger. Yesterday it happened to be a fellow believe and friend who was in need of some encouragement. Be on the lookout for moments in time that the Lord may give you—don't waste them! Make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.

I pray you're encouraged by this today. Love to all.

  1. Thank you for this reminder. So many times I know something in my gut and yet I do the opposite, which is typically trouble. I recently shared with my husband that I've known several times when things weren't good/right. We now listen to my gut...which is actually the Spirit.

  3. Carrie- that's another good way to describe the Holy Spirit. It's very similar to that gut feeling. Thanks for sharing!
